	Vadakalai Vs Thenkalai
		In Srivaishnava school itself, two branches of thought had emerged between the time of Sri Ramanuja and that of Sri Vedanta Desika whose contemporary was Pillai Lokacharya.
		They are called Vadakalai (Northern) and Tenkalai (Southern) though in reality there is NO GEOGRAPHICAL POLARIZATION to justify their nomenclature.
		This distinction has, in fact, no meaning since both in temple worship and in the hearths and homes the two streams have been so integrated and observed by both the branches.

		Both Thenkalai and Vadakalai are predominantly from the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu and they both share the same philosophy of Sri Vaishnavism.
		The main views of Thenkalais that are not in line with Vadakalais are:
		Thenkalais emphasize the greatness and overwhelming grace of the Lord to "save His own", and therefore speak more of the attitude of surrender than the act of surrender to attain moksha.

		So, when we speak of such things as Vadakalai or Tenkalai, we should note that these belong to SriVaishnavam as as a religion, and not to Iyengars as a caste.
		The formal division of the tradition into the two schools of thought known as Vadakalai or Tenkalai seems to have a fairly recent history, but it seems that scholars cannot really agree as to specifically when references to SriVaishnavam as having two schools became established.
		However the philosophical differences that have created this division can generally be traced back to two 14th century philosophers, Swamy Vedanta Desika (reputed to be the founder of the Vadakalai view), and Swamy Pillai Lokacharyar (who, along with Sri Manavalamamunigal, is reputed to be the founder of the Tenkalai view).
