Valle Camonica: i Paesi - Bienno

 Pizzerie Valle Brembana Bergamo

 Parco dell'Adamello - Typical Products
In the northernmost part of the Park and Val Camonica, the traditional bread is almost always made with a dough of rye and wheat, since the rye represented the ideal cereal growing on acid soils poor in nourishing elements.
It is a kind of cheese characterized by a long ripening period, and is exclusively produced in the middle and lower Val Camonica, with raw semi-skilled milk coming from "Bruno Alpina" cattle breed.
The area where this autochthonous alpine breed lives is represented by the massif of Adamello (mainly in its southern part, Val Saviore) and by Val Camonica.

Val Camonica pieces: Stile I, II, III: Notes: ELISION Ensemble
Where Anati's archaeology has pursued the Val Camonica motifs as signs with a universal, narrative meaning, Young's interest lies in their capacity and interest as signs for musical performance, as it is structured and encultured in notated parts.
Lifted from the conceptual time of chronology, re-composed and rehearsed for performance, the incisions are in effect restored to experiential time: to the vivid transience of gestures and reverberations, simultaneous with the reflexive times of a body's breathing; shivering; scratching.
Still open to the alpine air, so exhuberantly confounding historical time, the Val Camonica imagery also resists definitive interpretation, and Young's compositions celebrate this resilient variety and intricacy.

Val Camonica is one of Europe’s renown areas of prehistoric art, where hundreds of thousands of ancient carvings are found on glacier-polished sandstone surfaces.

Europreart - European Prehistoric Art - Past Signs and Present Memories
Val Camonica is a valley of the Italian Central Alps situated to the north of the Brescia city.
Also Valcenischia, a lateral valley of Valsusa, where the most important engraved rocks were discovered by the GRCM (Mountain Heritage Research Group, http://rupestre.net/archiv), presents engraved rocks at very high altitude, with an imagery very similar to the Iron Age rupestrian tradition of Val Camonica (warriors and topographical figures).
Val Germanasca, Val Pellice and Valle Po, again in Piedmont, where the CeSMAP (http://www.cesmap.it), another EuroPreart partner, has conducted a long series of research and studies, have been chosen for the singularity of their rocks.

ROCK ART & PETROGLYPHS: The motif of the "Camunnian Rose" in Valcamonica Rock Art
The shape of the so-called "camunian rose", engraved on several rocks of Val Camonica, consists of a sinuous quadrilobate groove, winding around 9 cup-marks, whose disposition is fixed and is a recurring model; today this pattern is well-known, also because lately it has become the symbol of Lombardia.
In order to have a scientific and complete documentation, we created a corpus of all the "camunian roses" known in Val Camonica: we found 84 "roses" engraved on 27 rocks.
For the quadrilobate type we have a larger number of precise comparisons, that is patterns which show the cup-marks (recurring and essential element in Val Camonica) as well as the quadrilobate contour.

 The First Labyrinths
An interesting observation regarding these labyrinths from Val Camonica is that the majority appear to accompany groups of warriors indulging in battle, whether real or ritual.
It would appear that they not only date from different times, but there is also a different perception and purpose for the labyrinth in these two cultures, although in the absence of any written records from this time, any attempt to explain the meaning of these early labyrinth rituals remains highly conjectural.
Despite the apparent popularity of the labyrinth with the rock artists of Val Camonica and Galicia, the design has so far not been found elsewhere amongst the extensively documented rock art along the Atlantic seaboard of Europe.
