  Val Doonican Biography
When Val was still young, one of his sisters contracted TB, forcing her to move into their parents’ room, and Val’s father to move into a shed at the end of the garden.
These days Val still tours, but as he told the web site during his interview, he is fortunate enough to be able to pick and choose his concerts.
Val is now a grandfather of two, and the father of a successful novelist, his elder daughter Sarah having scored some success in that field.

In 1963 he was recommended to impresario Val Parnell, by comedian Dickie Henderson, and gained a spot on ITV's top-rated television show SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE LONDON PALLADIUM.
He made an immediate impact with his friendly, easy-going style and in 1964 commenced an annual series for BBC television, which ran until the '80s.
The closing sequence of his TV show, in which he sang a song while seated in a rocking chair, was especially effective.

In 1945, when Leslie was discharged from the army through ill-health (he had contracted Typhoid whilst stationed in North Africa), the two brothers formed the Lew and Leslie Grade Agency, acquiring several other smaller agents and agencies of reputation.
