Although Valentia is technically outside of the Ring of Kerry (an imaginary "tourist" ring, in any case), it is still subject to the clambering hordes you'll find in most parts of Kerry during the summer months.
Valentia Island also has a grotto just a short uphill walk from Knightstown, with the, by now, familiar statue of the Virgin Mary perched on a high ledge (holidayhound tip, look out for falling slate in the grotto as it used to be a slate quarry).
The chief attraction to Valentia has to be the sense of peace and calm, with some splendid places to fish from shore, and opportunities to charter boats for dedicated deep-sea fishers.

The current Baa3 rating on the Euro 2.4 billion senior unsecured credit facility of Valentia Telecommunications Limited is expected to be withdrawn once the new financing package is in place and the current facility is refinanced and cancelled.
Going forward, Moody's expects that Valentia will be able to continue to realise meaningful cost-cutting benefits through general expense cuts and workforce reductions - both of which should allow the company's debt to cash flow ratios (before redundancy costs) to gradually improve despite the expectation for potential market share erosion and tariff reductions.
While Moody's believes that the employee's union will be co-operative in allowing staff-reductions (and recognises management's proven success in managing redundancies), the ratings continue to reflect the risk that the additional work-force reductions envisioned in the business plan could be hindered somewhat by union pressures.
