Shirley Valentine Reviewed by Linda Lopez McAlister For The Women's Show, WMNF-FM, Tampa, FL July 6, 1990 Shirley Valentine is a British film that was shown in movie theaters in early 1990 and which received, at best, a lukewarm reception by the film reviewers in the local press.
Shirley Valentine (played by Pauline Collins) is a 42 year- old, white, middle-class, English housewife whose kids are grown and whose husband has become a dour, boring, martinet who hardly speaks to Shirley except to give orders or complain.
She's reduced to talking to herself or her kitchen wall, and wondering what ever became of Shirley Valentine, the spunky young woman with hopes and dreams that she used to be.

 Barnes & Noble.com - Shirley Valentine -- Lewis Gilbert - VHS
In the film version of Shirley Valentine, Pauline Collins re-creates the role that had previously brought her theatrical fame and a Tony Award.
Shirley Valentine represents the second felicitous collaboration between playwright Willy Russell and director Lewis Gilbert; the first was the equally marvelous Educating Rita (1983).
Spending the bulk of the film speaking directly to the audience, the titular Shirley (Collins), a middle-aged Liverpool housewife, reveals her innermost thoughts and fears in a manner that is both insouciant and poignant.

 AboutFilm.Com - The Girl Next Door (1999)
Fugate opens the film by establishing that Valentine, née Stacy Baker, really is "the girl next door." She hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she was a young housewife until, in 1995, her abusive husband pushed her into competing in an adult magazine's amateur model contest.
In her enthusiasm and ebullience, Valentine comes across as naive and a bit vapid, as does her boyfriend Julian, who is also in the adult film industry.
The Girl Next Door follows two years in the life of Stacy Valentine, who rose meteorically in the adult film industry in 1997 and 1998, appearing in dozens of features and magazines and winning numerous awards.

 Caveman's Valentine
Although Eve's Bayou had its otherworldly references linked to voodoo, that was easier to follow and was not as much of the essence of the story as the delusions that Jackson has throughout this film.
Tamara Tunie provides texture to the film by showing the relationship that was, and will never be again, with Jackson, even though they never meet face to face in real time in the film.
The beauty of this movie is being able to think, see and feel like a person of high intelligence, who can no longer function in society.

Joining the duo for the second installment will be three new companions ripped directly from the game; and while it may not come as a surprise to all of you, we were completely floored: Jill Valentine is going to be one of the movie's central characters!
The actress set to play Miss Valentine is still under negotiations (though we're going to go out on a limb and predict that either Famke Jensen or Alyson Hannigan will get the role), and the identities of the other two game-related costars are still a mystery.
Though exact story details are unknown, the ending of the first film should be an indication as to what to expect(prepare for spoilers): Alice, Jill, and company find themselves alone and outnumbered as they fight off the massive undead population of Raccoon City.

MovieMaker Magazine HOP Volume 3, Issue #6 Director Eli Roth
In addition to the films from the ’70s, I grew up with the horror films and the teenage sex comedies of the early 1980s: films like The Burning, The Last American Virgin and My Bloody Valentine.
For Roth, a former protégé of David Lynch, it was more than a little ironic when the same studios who passed on Cabin Fever years earlier were engaged in a heated bidding war when the film debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in September of 2002.
Those films had lots of nudity and that’s what I wanted in my film, just in terms of not wanting to be formulaic.

dOc DVD Review: My Bloody Valentine (1981)
George Mihalka's My Bloody Valentine, in its unedited form, is no doubt a truly great genre film.
George Mihalka's My Bloody Valentine appeared on the leading edge of the 1980s masked killer revival, and featured one of the more memorable genre bad guys: the pickaxe-wielding miner, all decked out in black, complete with helmet light and gas mask.
You might think that canceling such a trivial event as a Valentine dance might not be the biggest sacrifice in the world, but to the narrowly focused, stock character populace of Valentine Bluff it is apparently a very big deal, because of course twenty years later they just must have one.

Valentine cannot and should not be considered a great film, but if you have a couple of hours to spare, it can't do any harm.
Like most horror movies, Valentine is filled with a gorgeous cast, although the story at least builds that in a little bit, since a kid from ten years ago has returned to kill the popular people that were mean to him.
As for Valentine, a horror movie that leaves the teenage group and moves to the slightly more upscale (and, I guess, sexier) twenty-something age group, it is packed with stupidity, but at least it's entertaining.

The Caveman's Valentine: Cinephiles Movie Review
Although The Caveman's Valentine mainly focuses on depicting the difficulties Romulus encounters as an outcast who tries to solve a murder, the film also explores the character's relationship to Art as he confronts his suspect.
Aside from Jackson's memorable performance, The Caveman's Valentine is a film with intriguing concepts and unclear representations of them.
Thus, The Caveman's Valentine may be viewed as an imperfect attempt to find visual and narrative representations of the themes involving the questionable and often abused definitions of Art.
