  Valentine
The infantery Tank Valentine was built on the blueprint of a cruiser tank with a reinforced armor.
The British mounted the 25-pounder howitzer on the chassis of the Valentine.
It differed from the English Valentine V by the front hull, which was cast instead of being riveted and the Browning MG instead of the Besa.

According to another version, the tank was called Valentine in honor of Sir John Valentine Carden, the man who led the development of the A10 and many other Vickers vehicles.
By 1944, in the European Theater of Operations the Valentine was almost competely replaced in the frontline units by the Churchill and the US-made Sherman.
The tank had riveted hull, was powered by AEC A189 135 hp gasoline engine and equipped with a 2 pdr.

The Valentine, Infantry Tank Mark III, was designed as a private venture by Vickers in 1938, submitting the plans to the War Office around Valentine's Day (hence the name).
The Valentine's reliability, thanks to its AEC 6 cylinder engine (adapted from a bus design), is what set this tank apart from other British tanks of the period.
Over 8,000 tanks were produced in the UK from 1940 through 1944, and an additional 1,420 were produced at Canadian Pacific's Montreal Locomotive Works (Mark VI and VII), all but 30 of which were shipped to the Soviet Union as Lend-Lease.

The British Army initially rejected the tank because it believed its turret was too small.
However, on the outbreak of war the army was so desperate for new tanks that it changed its mind about the suitability of the vehicle.
Valentines were also used by the New Zealand troops in the South-West Pacific.

The development team tried to combine the weight of a cruiser tank (so that suspension and transmission parts of the A10 could be used) with the armour of an infantry tank, which led to very small vehicle with cramped interior and two-man turret.

They were the Commonwealth's main export to the Soviet Union under the Lend-lease Act, with 2394 of the British models being sent and 1388 of the Canadian (the remaining 30 were kept for training).

 British Infantry Tanks
The Infantry Tank came about as a result of a 1934 requirement by the General Staff for a tank that would directly support an infantry attack.
Eventually, the teething problems were resolved and the tank went on to become one of the best tanks in the army's inventory.
The tank had excellent weight distribution and was considered very stable in movement.

Factsheets Database - Valentine Infantry Tank MkIII - Powered by ReviewPost
The Valentine tank was a private venture by Vickers-Armstrong Ltd and built to the prewar concept of the British Army that there should be two types of tank, a cruiser for the open warfare as practised by cavalry, and a heavy support tank for the infantry.
The Canadian-built Valentines were equipped with Browning 0.3in machine-guns in place of the BESA and some, but not all, of the later marks were fitted with smoke dischargers on the turret sides.
Canadian Valentines and some of the British-built Mks X and XI were given cast nose plates which were both stronger and cheaper than the built-up versions, but in general the armour was uninspired.

Missing Links Maquette #MQ-3553 British Infantry Tank MkIII Valentine XI Review
While the original Valentine design made extensive use of riveting, a changeover was made to welding and the XI was different due to this.
In action use was limited to Command and Observation Post tanks in units equipped with self-propelled anti tank guns and both Mks IX and XI were used and oddly listed in official figures as 6pdr or 75mm carrying which may suggest they retained their guns though that is not certain.
Valentine was the most commonly built British tank and it is good to have it in kit form.

Tank classification - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The British referred to these as infantry tanks and cruiser tanks respectively, although the latter was expected to exploit holes in the enemy lines and "cruise" at high speeds behind the lines.
In short, super-heavy tanks were merely an extension of World War I ideals regarding heavy assault guns placed on self-propelled carriages, emulating the railway guns and heavy artillery of their time, and with the rise of missiles and rockets, extremely long-range guns became obsolete.
Tank designers responded with increased armor and active armor systems, which while they do not entirely defeat this threat, require the size and weight of a missile needed to defeat a modern MBT much larger and less portable.

Tank destroyer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tank destroyers are used primarily to provide antitank support in combat operations but do not fit all the criteria of a tank.
The self-propelled guns that were built in the "Tank Destroyer" mould came about through the desire to field the formidable QF 17 pounder anti-tank gun and simultaneous lack of suitable tanks to carry it.
The closest the British came to developing an armoured Tank Destroyer in the vein of the German Jagdpanzers or Russian ISU series was the Churchill 3 inch Gun Carrier - a Churchill tank chassis with a boxy superstructure in place of the turret.
