Spanish Reina Valera Question - BaptistBoard.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Many "problem" passages in the 1960 are vindicated upon consulting older revisions of the Valera, lexicons, conservative commentaries, the ancient Itala and Peshitta manuscripts, or Textus Receptus-based Bibles in other languages such as the Italian Diodati, the French Ostervald, Luther’s German Bible, and the Portuguese translation by the Trinitarian Bible Society.
The Reina Valera (1960) is the Spanish edition that most closely follows the KJV (it does follow the nkjv more closely and it is 'missing words' in places).
But, the Reina and Valera Antigua (RVA) is VERY difficult for most native Spanish speakers (unless they grew up in a PROTESTANT church).

But of all modern Bibles with the name Valera on it, the Valera1865 is by far the closest to the original 1602 Valera.
And as already stated, the original 1602 Valera and its outstanding representative, the Valera1865, are Philadelphia Bibles produced during the Protestant reformation and should not be revised or corrected.
The amazing thing is that the original 1602 Valera along with its outstanding representative in print today, the Valera1865, is so strongly anti-Roman Catholic that the word "Maria" is inserted to make sure that the reader is certain to get the idea that Mary needed purification.
