Legal Affairs Debate Club - Should States Abolish Marriage?
Marriage is a source of social validation for people who choose to commit themselves to a shared life, and it infuses personal choice with more than idiosyncratic meaning.
Marriage "fulfills yearnings for security, safe haven and connection that express our common humanity." The reference to "common humanity" is especially striking: certainly, it could encompass specifically religious meanings of marriage, but it is also suggests that marriage carries a common public—that is, civil—meaning as a tangible signal of commitment.
Civil marriage, as the Goodridge decision insisted, is a creation of the state, and while government may indeed act to protect the free exercise of religion, civil marriage is not a religious institution.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Legitimation
Such legitimation is termed plenior in canon law to distinguish it from the plena legitimation which is granted by papal rescript, and from the plenissima which follows on the radical validation of a marriage (sanatio in radice).
The legitimation of children does not depend on the will of their parents, and takes place even when the latter are unwilling, or even when the marriage has been celebrated after other marriages contracted during the interim.
It is to be noted that all children born of marriage are presumed in canon law to be legitimate.

International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission -
IGLHRC refers to a “registered partnership” as a same-sex partnership with national or regional validation patterned after civil heterosexual marriage, requiring some form of preliminary affirmation of the relationship before a government authority (a registry) and entailing most but not all of the same benefits.
"Registered partnership" is a model pioneered by the Scandinavian countries which reconciles marriage laws with equal protection and anti-discrimination laws, giving most but not all of the rights of heterosexual civil marriage to same-sex couples.
The new law provides inheritance and pension rights; job benefits and rights for public employees (e.g., leave to care for partner in the event of illness.) The law entails no adoption rights for same-sex couples; it also offers no shared social security or immigration rights, since these depend on the national government.

 LDS Singles forum: Co-dependency
However, the dependence that is not healthy at all, is when there is someone else, depending on you for lots of various things (often things they could easily handle or do themselves), and because of their dependence on you, you drop everything to help them when they come calling.
In that sense, you each depend on the other for love, validation, attention, respect, and support, and that is exactly the way it should be.
of course, it can be argued that all of these mean "mutually dependent," it's really a matter of degrees of dependence.

Latest News - Republic of Botswana
Basarwa’s form of customary validation of marriage is often frowned upon by tribal citizens from bogadi-paying cultures who also happen to dominate many national institutions where their non-recognition of such unions influences decisions on the rights conferred on ethnic minorities.
This, therefore, means that Basarwa continue to suffer the injustices embodied in the non-recognition of their cultural practices which should be used as the ideal for developing egalitarian laws relating to marriage and custodianship of children.
Some Basarwa may have reached the lower ranks of senior posts or upper ranks of middle management but for fear of ethnic victimisation and ridicule, they may be hiding their ethnic identity as a survival strategy.

Slippery Slop - The maddening "slippery slope" argument against gay marriage. By Dahlia Lithwick
Texas, when he wrote, "State laws against bigamy, same-sex marriage, adult incest, prostitution, masturbation, adultery, fornication, bestiality, and obscenity are likewise sustainable only in light of Bowers' validation of laws based on moral choices.
Bracket all the hysterical and irrelevant stops along the slippery slope (some of which are there only to trivialize homosexuality) and we are left to try to draw principled lines between gay marriage, in which no one is harmed, and adult incest, adultery, bigamy, or polyamory.
Rick Santorum got into hot water for spewing this argument last spring: "If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery.

Validation of Exceptional Longevity - Age Validation of Centenarians in the Luxdorph Gallery
In his pioneering study Human Longevity its facts and its fictions from 1873 William J. Thoms set up criteria for age validation, stressing the fact that the burden of proof in these cases should rest with those who put forward the age-claims, rather than with those who dared disbelieve the amazing age-claims of supercentenarians.
An element very common to these myths of longevity is locating the stories to places not easily accessible, in this case the Temesvar Bannat in Hungary.
As can be seen from the above examples most if not all of the centenarians and supercentenarians in the gallery have been or can be invalidated, and even a number of the persons aged less than 100 in the gallery have had their ages adjusted downwards by recent research.

Harriet Taylor Mill (1807 - 1858), Enfranchisement of Women Women's History Month 2003 by Sunshine for Women
Published in 1851 in the Westminster Review in response to the first National Woman's Rights Convention in Worcester, Mass in 1850, the essay, "Enfranchisement of Women," was reprinted in the United States and became an important validation for the early U.S. women's movement.
Some claim that Mill was impotent, others that John Taylor had passed syphilis to Harriet Taylor during the early years of their marriage accounting for the rapid cooling of their relationship, Harriet Taylor's later health problems, and John Taylor's high tolerance for their unconventional relationship.
Harriet and John joined William Fox's South Place Chapel Unitarian church, meeting many of the leading utilitarians and Unitarians including Jeremy Bentham's leading disciples, John Bowring and Southwood Smith.

In addition, Brown as the young Eva is an actress wise beyond her years (as is her character), paradoxically playing off her free-spirited mom, reproving her choices at every turn and recognizing the cyclical, self-destructive patterns that Mary Jo can't — or won't — see.

Judgment of the Lords of Appeal in the case of Bellinger v Bellinger, in which a transsexual woman sought validation of her marriage to her husband.

The third development was that before your Lordships' House counsel for the Lord Chancellor accepted that, from the time of the Goodwin decision, those parts of English law which fail to give legal recognition to the acquired gender of transsexual persons are in principle incompatible with articles 8 and 12 of the Convention.
