The path is steep as it starts out from Valleraugue, but it is thankfully shaded by thick beech and chestnut woodland, winding its way past ruins of shepherd huts before emerging onto a jagged ridge with views overlooking deep ravines.

So far, several of us have visited Valleraugue - an idyllic, flower-filled village nestling in the heart of the Cevennes mountains north of Montpellier.
Last August, a Valleraugue contingent came over to Edinburgh for a football tournament and we had a fantastic barbecue night in the Kirk Stables, culminating in two of our number being kidnapped on the team bus and nearly whisked back to France!!!
