Van Buren County is a county located in the state of Iowa.
Its county seat is Keosauqua, Iowa, which contains the oldest continuously oprerational courthouse in the state of Iowa, and second oldest in the United States.
In the county the population is spread out with 24.80% under the age of 18, 7.00% from 18 to 24, 24.40% from 25 to 44, 24.80% from 45 to 64, and 19.10% who are 65 years of age or older.

The area immediately surrounding the lake, about 3,000 acres, has been purchased by the DNR and Van Buren County to be managed as a wildlife area.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Van Buren County Conservation Board are managing the lake, wildlife and recreation area.

Reid.
