The chief assassin of a secret society dedicated to eradicating evil, Van Helsing is a man without a past, haunted by memories of ancient battles.
Van Helsing himself is armed with a lot of high-tech 1800s gadgetry, like a rapid-fire crossbow machine-gun, a pair of handheld circular saws, a pistol that shoots grappling hooks, and plenty of nasty guns, knives and swords.
Unfortunately many of the latter-day Van Helsing renditions (such as the 1960s Hammer Studios versions) are given short shrift or completely ignored, but at least there's lip service given to the monster-hunter's roots.

The epitome of everything that's wrong with $150 million B-movies, "Van Helsing" is an inane, soulless, 19th century vampire-hunting action flick of computer-F/X overkill and ham-fisted actors chewing on stale catch-phrase dialogue (when dialogue is even allowed) as if it's a mouthful of bubblegum with the flavor long gone.
