This feat of engineering was accomplished by the vanara architect Nala with the help of an army of monkeys, chief among them Hanuman, so that Lord Rama, prince of Ayodhya and avatar of Krishna, could save his wife, Sita, from the clutches of the island's dastardly, ten-mustachioed demon-ruler, Ravana.
We know from the epic that the vanara employed "mechanical contrivances" or "engines" to transport the largest boulders to the sea, so they had the technology to produce a monorail car.
As Hanuman and Angada were instrumental in the endeavor to reach Ravana, what better tribute than to name the newly crafted monorail cars in their honor.

Amardeep Singh: Hanuman, the animated film; and the puzzle of the Vanaras
A Vanara isn't two animals grafted together (or a human grafted with an animal); rather it's a being that is essentially human (or "humanoid" as sci-fi people might say), but with limited animal features.
Additionally of course as Hanumana is Bhima's older brother it seems appropriate to see him as a slightly chubby large humanoid rather than a muscular he-man (an image I associate more with Arjuna, who I understant was not supposed to be a pretty boy, what with his calloused hands and all, that was Sahadeva).
The Vanaras don't look like homo sapiens sapiens but are no less human from the point of view of the purnanas and itihasas.

Here not to insult his audience and readers, he is making a pun on this term Vanara and even attributes the characteristics of the other species to this large class of human beings who leave a doubt about their deserving to be called human beings.
In this manner human beings live in comfort with the social evils in their own society or undesirable qualities in themselves by projecting them on others or other societies and focusing on them on far way objects, far way from themselves.
