After a lengthy break that saw the members address many of their side-projects, VandenPlas returns with Christ 0, which is based upon the story of the count of Monte Cristo and features new, contemporary symbolism dealing with the phenomena of schizophrenia.
There is also a new side to VandenPlas readily apparent on songs like “Somewhere Alone In the Dark” and “Postcard to God.” Modern guitar riffing with powerful drum parts and skilful instrumental passages turn both songs into gripping metal tunes that give the band a dynamic and contemporary sound.

If you only know VandenPlas from their latter output like 1997's The God Thing or 1999's Far Off Grace, you know that VandenPlas mixes elements of 80s hard rock along the lines of Dokken or Van Halen with 90s progressive metal like Dream Theater.
In fact, post-Colour Temple VandenPlas is a lot like Dream Theater in many aspects.
