Vanden Plas is the name of a company of coachbuilders for specialist and up-market automobile manufacturers.
In 1946 Vanden Plas became a subsidiary of the Austin Motor Company and produced its A135 Princess model.
The Vanden Plas trademark is owned by Ford (through Jaguar) for use within the USA and Canada, and as (UK 1133528, E2654481) to MG Rover Group Ltd for use in the rest of the world.

Constructed in new the Plas de Vanden of the chassis of the six-cylinder of Austins a princess I Standard Wheelbase Saloon of 120/135 as of 1947 to 1950 produced the Austin, 135 a 135 princess II to divide the 1950 for 1953 and a princess III to divide the 1953 for 1956.
In Vanden Plas 1958 produced a version of luxury of the hall Austin To 105 and in their replacement in 1959 by the 99 Austin Westminster, the princess of 3 liters was introduced, the mark that became II of 1961.

Essentially badge-engineered versions of the Westminster were also produced using the premium Wolseley and Vanden Plas marques.
A specially trimmed A99 was sold as the Princess 3-Litre, first badged as an Austin and later under the Vanden Plas marque as the Vanden Plas Princess.
The same basic body was also used for a Rolls Royce-engined Vanden Plas Princess 4 Litre R, and the body even formed part of a prototype Bentley.

The Austin Princess 'In 1947 Sir Herbert Austin purchased Vanden Plas in order to build a luxury car and the Princess Saloon was born.
The first two Princesses went to the Queen (then Princess) Elizabeth in 1952 and the last saloon was built in 1957.
The limousine version continued to be made until 1968, badged "Vanden Plas Princess" under the Austin company, who marketed the vehicle as their flagship car, ahead of Jaguar and Daimler.

Officially, the Vanden Plas version was to be known as a Princess 3-Litre, even though the general public still tended to call it an Austin Princess 3-Litre.
Whatever the title, the Vanden Plas-produced 3-Litre was structurally and mechanically identical to the new Austin A99 and Wolseley 6/99 saloons.
Compared with the Wolseley 6/99, therefore, the Princess 3-Litre had a prominent special grille and an overhanging bonnet panel, and there were special wheel nave plates and paint schemes to add to the air of exclusivity.

Because it was a 3,909cc unit, the new car's title was 4-Litre Princess R, and rumours persisted that the R was meant to stand for Royal, but that the use of this adjective was frowned on in court circles.
The Vanden Plas factory at Kingsbury closed down in 1979, the last Vanden Plas car was produced at Abingdon in 1980, and more recently the name has been applied by Austin-Rover to versions of Austin and Rover cars.

As before these impressive cars were built by Vanden Plas on separate Austin chassis, powered by the old D-Series 3993cc six cylinder engine.

The Morris 1100, on which the Vanden Plas Princess was based, was styled by the Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina.

Years of neglect have meant that this VP is in need of some TLC – there are several dents in the bodywork and as you can see, the suspension needs pumping up.
