Now Vangelis is finally free to start working on his solo career, and he does so with the release of his first solo album "Fais que ton rêve soit plus long que la nuit", an album based on the student riots in Paris during 1968.
In 1991 Vangelis cooperates on three performances; first he performs in Rotterdam, The Netherlands at "Eureka, the event of excellence", then he improvises music at the Night of Poetry in Athens, and finally he composes and performs the music for the mini-opera Antigone.
For Montserrat Caballe Vangelis composes a number of songs, which are published on her albums "Friends for life" (1997) and "With all my heart" (1998).

The title track, "Albedo 0.39" is an atmospheric track building on waxing and waning synthesizer chords and arpeggios, while a voice with a British accent narrates various physical properties of the Earth, such as its mass, length of the year in various measurements, and, finally, its albedo (amount of light reflected back into space).

Vangelis, whose real name is Evangelos Odyssey Papathanassiou, has a distinct, electronically-driven style of composition that has gained him awards in several genres of music across several international borders.
In the film score realm specifically, Vangelis plucked an Oscar from John Williams (and Raiders of the Lost Ark) in 1981 for Chariots of Fire and his better known subsequent scores are those for Bladerunner and 1492: Conquest of Paradise.
The rhythmic nature defines Vangelis and Alexander, and keeps you interested in the score from the battle scenes through even the stewing underscore of "Chant" and "Immortality." The only straight (and overdue) reprise is the title ("Titans") theme in "Dream of Babylon" near the conclusion.

The spontaneous way that Vangelis used to record and layer his musical textures onto tape necessitated the installation of a large amount of electronic and acoustic instruments which all needed to be ready for him to record with at any given time.
Vangelis was introduced to the CS80 at a trade fair in 1977, and was tremendously excited by the possibilities it offered, but arranged to have one on loan for a few weeks before deciding whether to spend the necessary £4850 (the 'CS80's asking price at this time)!

Listening to this odd-man-out entry in the sweeping Vangelis catalogue nearly 30 years after its release, one is instantly reminded of the time and musical climate in which it wasrecorded--this is a disc that distills the glorious pomp and circumstance that was mid-'70s prog-rock.
Liking both Vangelis and Jon Anderson in the 70s, it was great to hear they would be doing some albums together in the 80's.
Compared to the other Vangelis albums I have heard, his style on this album is to me a lot more reflective, with some tracks bordering on the ambient.
