Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou better known as Vangelis (pronounced to rhyme with "angle" not "angel") (born March 29, 1943) is a world-renowned new age and electronic musician.
Born in Valos, Greece, Vangelis began composing when he was 4 years old, and is largely a self-taught musician.
Vangelis began his solo work by writing scores to two films by French filmmaker Frederic Rossif in 1973.

Now Vangelis is finally free to start working on his solo career, and he does so with the release of his first solo album "Fais que ton rĂªve soit plus long que la nuit", an album based on the student riots in Paris during 1968.
In 1991 Vangelis cooperates on three performances; first he performs in Rotterdam, The Netherlands at "Eureka, the event of excellence", then he improvises music at the Night of Poetry in Athens, and finally he composes and performs the music for the mini-opera Antigone.
For Montserrat Caballe Vangelis composes a number of songs, which are published on her albums "Friends for life" (1997) and "With all my heart" (1998).

Each of the 3,000 copies of Vangelis’ limited-edition, specially boxed CD A Tribute To El Greco (featuring performances by the great Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballe and Greek tenor Konstantinos Paliatsaras) was sold exclusively through the National Gallery as an objet d’art, thus substantially contributing to this end.
Vangelis garnered yet another award in 1996, when he was officially recognized as the world’s largest selling Greek artist, based on the sales of his recordings, at the World Music Awards held in Monte Carlo under the patronage of Prince Albert of Monaco.
In 1999 Vangelis created the music for the unveiling of the official emblem for the 2004 Olympic Games, as well as the logo music that will accompany the emblem whenever it is displayed.

The spontaneous way that Vangelis used to record and layer his musical textures onto tape necessitated the installation of a large amount of electronic and acoustic instruments which all needed to be ready for him to record with at any given time.
Vangelis was introduced to the CS80 at a trade fair in 1977, and was tremendously excited by the possibilities it offered, but arranged to have one on loan for a few weeks before deciding whether to spend the necessary £4850 (the 'CS80's asking price at this time)!

In 1968, Vangelis left Greece for Paris, where he formed the prog-rock group Aphrodite's Child, whose main legacy is a long-form concept album called 666, based on the book of Revelations.

Vangelis work is vast and most of it I still do not know it.
The infinity symbol cut with Irene Papas was the reason for the album's delay, since the group refused to remove the track from the album.
Vangelis then teamed with some other musicians and recorded two albums in 1971, Hypothesis and The Dragon, neither of them released at the time (they were released around 1978), and then Vangelis wanted those two albums withdrawn (that explains why those two albums never saw the light of day on CD).
