Vanilla Coke (also known as Coca-Cola Vanilla, and, for a time in the summer of 2003, V) is the soft drink Coca-Cola made to a recipe with extra vanilla.
Vanilla Coke debuted at the Vanilla Bean Café, locally known as "the Bean," in the scenic town of Pomfret, Connecticut.
Doubt was cast over the future of Vanilla Coke and its splinter beverages as it was revealed that 2004 sales amounted to 35 million unit cases in North America, compared to 90 million in its inaugural year.

NEW YORK (Reuters) — Coca-Cola (KO) said Friday it would phase out its Vanilla Coke, Vanilla Diet Coke and Diet Coke With Lemon beverages in the United States by end of this year.
The company said Vanilla Coke, which was introduced in the United States in 2002 and Diet Vanilla Coke in 2003, could return sometime in the future.
Vanilla Coke sales slipped to 35 million unit cases in 2004 from 90 million unit cases in 2002, while Vanilla Diet Coke sales dropped to 13 million unit cases last year from 23 million unit cases in 2003, according to Beverage Marketing, a beverage research and consulting firm.

Of course, the humour of it all is that vanilla has always been in coke since the original days, and is partially responsible for the sweet taste of it all.
Vanilla coke merely injects more into it, and soda vendors of the 50's used to do it easily, even making other variations such as Pepperment Coke, Chocolate Coke, or any other availiable flavour.
Still, that's not to say Vanilla Coke is bad at all, it's just a weird concotion that will either grow on North America's fickle tastebuds or, like Crystal Pepsi, die a slow and painful death.

Good ‘ol plain Vanilla was put out to pasture at the start of this year for reasons yet unknown except to Coke insiders.
However, the writing “Black Cherry Vanilla” is actually quite small and is vertical on the can which makes it difficult to tell at a glance what it is. Vanilla Coke has the letters emblazoned diagonally across the can in much larger letters.
Part of the problem with the normal coke is that it is very carbonated, and the vanilla seemed to curb that quite a bit.
