 Stories by Tom Shaddox
It's true that the Varsity has the oxymoronic distinction of being one of the heaviest lightweight bicycles ever built.
In between 1959 and 1987 was the Schwinn Varsity.
But they believed in adult cycling, they stuck with it, and they continued to look for a bicycle that would entice the non rider to be a casual rider, and bridge the casual rider into an enthusiast.

 Varsity Theater, Dinkytown, Minneapolis, Minnesota
" The Varsity is an absolutely gorgeous place for a show, maybe the best in town.
With a comfortable décor and a large open performance space, the sightlines are second to none – and the live music experience is enhanced by a tremendous sound and lighting system.
They have paid attention to the things that matter most to the music fan, so there is little confusion why the Varsity is quickly becoming THE place for local and smaller touring bands to play.

Yale Daily News - Club sports consider varsity status
While the women's water polo team is still searching for a way to make the jump to varsity status, the Yale Sailing Team made the transition from club status to varsity status in spring 2002 amid strong alumni support.
In addition to facing a stricter social environment at the boat house, the sailing team's varsity status makes it more difficult for casual participants to have a significant role in the team's efforts.
Chris McPhee '04, who is captain of the men's cycling team, said the team would love to have varsity status but it is not realistic for most club sports.

There's a very tiny genre of music which I like to call "Flintsone Dance Numbers." It's sparsely populated as far as these things go, but it's nice to be able to meet one of its denizens now and then.
Houston's Junior Varsity rock out with sharp little tunes, featuring two chicky guitar players and a clean drummer.
Part rockabilly and part surf, with twin female vocals (and the occasional male one), their sound is unmistakably something that every child of cartoon-watching age can appreciate.

 Varsity Blues
First-year Toronto forward Heather Clark found the back of the net one minute into the second half to secure the win for the Blues, while captain Malinda Hapuarachchi was strong on both sides of the ball and picked up player of the game honours.
First-year Toronto forward Heather Clark (Oakville, Ont.) found the back of the net one minute into the second half, stick-handling through the circle and tucking the ball past Gryphons goaltender Kalen Johnson (Trenton, Ont.), and it was all Varsity Blues from there.
The OUA champs generated seven short corner chances in the final frame and kept the ball in the Gryphons' end for almost the entire half, giving their conference rivals little opportunity to get back into the game.

 Inside the Varsity
But instead of Schwinn's magic rolling on into the bike boom of the early seventies, their unique "electro-forged" (E/F) frames--the basis of our earlier favorites--were suddenly perceived as heavy, and fell from grace with maturing young riders.
Surrounding the seat joint were induction coils that heated the seat joint rapidly, melting a preplaced silver brazing wire.
The E/F process also joined the chainstay to the remaining two protrusions on the bottom bracket, but those joints and the seam on the BB shell itself were never cleaned up as much as the other joints.
