 | | Vaughan - Senior high school students in Vaughan are helping to build self-esteem among their elementary school peers - and learning leadership skills in the process - thanks to a "Branching Out" community-based mentoring project. |
 | | Vaughan Secondary School in cooperation with the Glen Shields P.S., Brownridge P.S. and the Boys and Girls Club of Vaughan is providing 42 student mentors, chosen through application, interview and teacher recommendation, to volunteer a minimum of two hours a week to assist 60 elementary students. |
 | | Project coordinator John Hodgson, of the Boys and Girls Club of Vaughan, says "Branching Out is a step beyond" traditional mentoring programs in that senior students design the games and structure of the program based on recreation management principles, child and skill development, and team building activities. |
