Vaughan Secondary School in cooperation with the Glen Shields P.S., Brownridge P.S. and the Boys and Girls Club of Vaughan is providing 42 student mentors, chosen through application, interview and teacher recommendation, to volunteer a minimum of two hours a week to assist 60 elementary students.
Project coordinator John Hodgson, of the Boys and Girls Club of Vaughan, says "Branching Out is a step beyond" traditional mentoring programs in that senior students design the games and structure of the program based on recreation management principles, child and skill development, and team building activities.

The OAC student from Vaughan Secondary School defeated 4,322 students from around the world.
The staff and students at Vaughan Secondary are equally impressed with the third place finish of fellow OAC student Ryan Korda.
He is one of 10 students in Canada to advance to the National Finals for the Chemistry Olympiad and also placed second in Ontario in the Canadian National Chemical Institute competition, April 27, 1998.

In Canadian high schools, co-op education refers to the practice in which schools and employers co-operate to involve students in extended periods of time at a workplace while they are enrolled in full-time study.
Our analysis of the nine school district documents for co-op education suggests that what we usually consider to be the "hidden curriculum" forms, for this curriculum subject, a large part of the "intended" or explicit curriculum.
The sample of school district documents we analyzed did not refer to preparing students for diverse workplaces, although four school districts were in metropolitan areas that could be expected to have high cultural diversity in many of the workplaces for co-op education.
