	Vauxhall Chevette - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		It was Vauxhall's version of GM's family of small 'T-Cars', which included the Opel Kadett in Germany, the Isuzu Gemini in Japan, the Holden Gemini in Australia, the Chevrolet Chevette in the USA and Brazil and a badge-engineered Pontiac Acadian/Pontiac T1000 in the USA and Canada.
		However, unlike the Viva, the Chevette was designed as a hatchback, a style that was rapidly becoming popular in the mid 1970s.
		Although the Chevette was largely a rebadged Opel Kadett C with revised front-end (detailed below), it did use the 1256 cc overhead valve engine of the Viva instead of the Opel power units found in its Kadett sister car.

		The T-car was actually first launched in Brazil under the Chevette name in 1974, as a two-door sedan — the Brazilian Chevette line eventually included a 3-door hatchback and a 2-door station wagon (named Marajó), as well as a pickup (named the Chevy 500), and was produced until 1994.
		Production of the Chevette in the USA started in late 1975 for the 1976 model year; initially there was a 3-door hatchback with a 1.4 or 1.6 L gasoline engine, and a 4-speed manual transmission.

		The majority of the bolts, screws and nuts used on Vauxhall Chevette are generally in the International Standards Organisation (ISO) metric range with the exception of the engine and transmission which are to Unified standards.
		Most Chevettes have seen over 20 years of hard use and a new set of drums recon' calipers, refurbished master cylinder and a decent set of pads will make a real difference.

		Vauxhall were turned into rebadged Opels at the end of the seventies or so, and they were no longer available in Holland.
		Also, Vauxhall had major differences with the Chevette they shared some of the parts with, mainly as Vauxhall being close to Ford in the UK saw the need to put a car capable of convincing the UK market away from the Escort with a nice hatchback.
		We had a Vauxhall Chevette back then and it WAS a car ahead of it's time.

		The whole problem with the Chevette as far as acceleration goes is that it is a derivative of a bigger Chevy car just scaled down with a tiny, tiny engine crammed in.

		This is a Chevette from 1980 with the steering on the left side.
		The cockpit seem to be bigger than the Kadett C's one, so that many Kadett C enthusiasts salvages old Chevettes on german junkyards.

		When uprating your engine it is important to consider such other items as brakes, suspension etc. A cheap brake upgrade is to fit discs and calipers off a Manta.
		Or use vented discs of a 2.2 Vauxhall Carlton along with 4 pot calipers off a Austin Princess or Volvo 240 models.
		The master cylinder should cope with this type of brake upgarde as they were the same bore sixe on all of the Chevettes, 1256 and 2300.
