  Vauxhall Vectra 3.2 GSi
Vauxhall has geared up the steering, reduced ride height, fitted 215/50x17 tyres and fiddled with spring and damper rates to make the Vectra's chassis considerably perkier than normal, but there's a limit to what you can do with this basic material.
It's effective and effortless, and it makes this Vectra more of a Grand Tourer than other, earlier Vauxhalls (Cavaliers and Carltons spring to mind) that have had GSi added to their names.
Vauxhall people were irritated recently when a print magazine put a GSi up against a high-performance Ford Mondeo in a track test and concluded that the Vectra was far softer and less effective in those conditions.

Vauxhall's eco-tech motor is a thoroughly modern design and is at least the equal of many other highly rated power plants, at least in terms of peak output.
Vauxhall could tell you better what they have done to the suspension to change it to SRI standard but I would take a guess at lowered and heavier spring rates, much uprated dampers and thicker anti-roll bars.
Whilst old Vectra brakes worked well enough, the ABS tended to cut in very early leading to a pulsing feel to the pedal and you to believe that you could never extract maximum braking power.

 Vauxhall Vectra 1.7 TD
Vauxhall have already heavily reworked the Vectra into Mk 2 guise and claim to have produced a much improved car in response to public demand, but the shabby re-styling may just be an underhand attempt to gain public acceptance by distancing its looks from the first generation.
In these conditions, the Vectra started to grow on me. Sure, the steering is too light and indirect, the ride a little crashy.
I was just beginning to think that all the journo's who have slated the Vectra were being rather unfair and picky, when I made the mistake of taking the scenic route.

This far into the model life of the current Vectra, Vauxhall might have been content with the mildest of facelifts to keep the car looking fresh.
A Vectra estate is a bulky device, but the CDTi unit copes well with the weight and provides decent performance along with an official combined fuel economy within sight of 50mpg.
A Vauxhall person assured me, for example, that "the comfort and refinement of the old car" - not a phrase which stands up to much scrutiny - has been maintained, while a new sporting dimension has been added.

Vauxhall’s spacious new Vectra Estate will be the final addition to the Vectra family when it goes on sale at the end of November.
Vauxhall’s new 3.0 V6 CDTi common rail diesel features on two models, while other recently introduced engines, the 2.2 16v Direct and 2.0 Turbo petrol units, are both also available in the Estate.
Such is the Vectra’s capaciousness that it compares favourably to the executive segment Omega (itself renowned for its luggage and passenger space) despite being 76mm shorter overall.

Vauxhall Vectra hatchback 1.9 CDTi --- MotorBar Road Test
In 2005, the new Vauxhall Vectra — I say new, but to be honest re-styled is more accurate — failed to finish in the UK's Top Ten sales chart because of the time gap between the run-out of old models and the introduction of the new range of hatchbacks, saloons and estates.
Every Vectra ordered for the home market is fitted with special suspension and steering parts to make sure it's not only fun to drive on a bumpy B-road but is a refined cruiser on the motorway.
Both Ford and Vauxhall push loads of these cars into the huge company car and fleet sectors so although better than the previous Vectra, the residual values will not be as strong as those of the Passat: more likely on a par with the Mondeo.

 Vauxhall Vectra VXR (2006)
Introduced in the summer of 2002, the current model, the Vectra C, is built in Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, and is based on the GM Epsilon platform.
A four-door sedan is the staple model, while the five-door hatchback, known as the Vectra GTS, is meant to recall cult models from Opel in the past such as the Commodore GTE of the 1970s.
The Vectra received a facelift near the end of 2005, and the V6 engine was replaced by an Australian-built 2.8 V6 Turbo unit, similar to the one used in the Saab 9-3.

Vauxhall's VXR brand creates a high-performance model at the top of the Vectra range in hatchback and supremely practical estate guises.
Firm ride apart, the Vectra VXR is as comfortable as the rest of the Vectra range, with enough room to accommodate five adults.
The standard Vectra is designed to take 20,000-plus miles a year in its stride with room for five and the VXR is no different, although tyre roar is more noticeable with the larger wheels fitted to the VXR.

ISOFIX mountings are installed in all new Vectras and these were used to attach the child restraints.

Vauxhall Vectra (2002-) - 4Car Car Review Road Test from Channel 4
Despite the drubbing the Vectra has historically received at the hands of the motoring press - most notably Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson - it is a car which has always sold well, featuring prominently among the nation's top 10 best-sellers.
Admittedly this has had much to do with the generous discounts Vauxhall affords companies that buy fleets of the things, but sales of around 180,000 Vectras since 2002 must prove it as a sensible business buy, if nothing else.
The Vectra has received a mid-life facelift for 2005, which makes it all-new from the A-pillar forward over 2002 models.

First, the new Vectra, which is a twin to the Opel Vectra sold in Germany, will be the basis for the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu you can expect next fall.
Vectra is a nice-handling four-door sedan with good acceleration and a comfortable, quiet interior.
The tested Vectra boasts GM's new Ecotec 2.2-liter, four-cylinder engine, which is a smooth operator, quiet and delivers both good gas mileage (important when petrol is roughly $3 a gallon, as it is in England) and low emissions.

A formula tried in the previous model, the GSi seeks to combine traditional, tried and tested Vauxhall brand values with a specification intended to challenge the German's dominance of the sports-saloon market.
