  Jackson County Vector Control District
The goals of this District are to prevent new vector sources from developing, to abate existing vector populations and their sources in order to protect public health and comfort, to reduce the level of vector populations throughout the District, as well as reduce vector and human interaction.
Vector shall mean any insect or arthropod, rodent, or other animal of public health significance capable of causing discomfort, injury, or capable of harboring or transmitting the causative agents of disease to humans or domestic animals.
The vector problem in Jackson County is largely a human associated problem resulting from agricultural endeavors, increasing population, and urbanization.

Vector control - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vector control is any method to limit or eradicate the vectors of vector born diseases, for which the pathogen (e.g.
virus or parasite) is transmitted by a vector which can be mammals, birds or arthropods, especially insects, and more specifically mosquitoes.
The most frequent type of vector control is mosquito control, which uses a variety of strategies, three of which are:

CDC - Pesticides and Public Health: Integrated Methods of Mosquito Management
Biological controls (including birds and bats) may be present, but often not in sufficient numbers to provide satisfactory alternative control, particularly in coastal areas where salt-marsh mosquitoes are abundant or when human disease outbreaks occur.
Vector control uses of existing pesticides, particularly adulticides, often follow agricultural registration and commercialization as a means of expanding sales into new markets.
For mosquito control, these data are often obtained under an experimental use permit, which requires application to EPA, submission or reference to a portion of the pesticide registration requirements according to CFR 40 § 158 Data Requirements for Registration and Reporting (7,8).

Goals: The Clackamas County Vector Control District is responsible for control of flies and mosquitoes within Clackamas County.
Control of these vectors is not intended to be total eradication since the concept of total eradication is unachievable and environmentally unsound, requiring unacceptable quantities of pesticide.
The goals of the District, therefore, are to limit the number of vectors thus reducing annoyance and the likelihood of vector borne disease for persons living in the District.

The idea behind vector control is to reduce levels of mortality and morbidity by reducing transmission of the disease.
Control activities and resources are mainly available at provincial level, where they need to be more decentralized and controlled at the sub-district level.
Larval control, given the nature of the vectors, which tend basically to breed everywhere in a small amount of water on the surface of the ground, this approach can be acceptable only under suitable mapping and characterization of breeding sites, and will work mainly in urban and peri-urban areas.
