The Vedauwoo exit is about 20 miles east of Laramie (and therefore about 25 miles west of Cheyenne).
Vedauwoo proper is a picnic area with fabulous rock climbing and hiking opportunities.
You can park in Vedauwoo and ride out of there, but it is best to cruise down the dirt road past the entrance to the picnic ground and turn off on one of the many side roads and park.

Vedauwoo is located in a "National" Forest, and everyone is welcome there.

I am sure you have figured out by now, but there are alot of offwidths at Vedauwoo, and there is generally an offwidth section on just about every climb.
It's true if you camp in Central Vedauwoo there's a small fee, but you don't have to go very far away to camp for free.

It is not detailed about specific gear for each route, but it is well organized and the pictures are good and should be helpful for first timers to the area.
I have climbed pretty extensively at Vedauwoo and I would agree with MOST of the ratings he has in this book, but buyer beware, Vedauwoo guides are notorius for sand bagging!

The undulating, 40-foot roof problem is a splitter with a 20-foot crux that “pinches to hands and then spits you up into another wide cruxy section,” according to Edl’s post describing the new climb on mountainproject.com.

 Climbing in Wyoming
Well, It took a a entire year to gather up the will to go back to Vedauwoo, but the 2nd trip was much more pleasant.
I don't know if it was a better choice of routes, if we are just getting better at granite and cracks or if the hand jammies are better than plain old tape.
The last pitch, a variation called the Straight Edge, has the look and feel I remembered from past Vedauwoo climbs: starts as a decent hand crack, but then turns into a fist crack that will leave some durable scratch marks.
