Vedavalli is widely acknowledged as an expert musician adhering strictly to the sampradaya of classical Carnatic Music.
Vedavalli is a recipient of many prestigious awards and titles including the titles of Divya Gana Pravina, Sangita Choodamani, Kalaimamani, Sangita Ratnakara and Gayaka kula Tilaka Kalpalata.
It would be apt to conclude with the words of a connoisseur: "Vedavalli’s virtuosity is blessed with a matching scholarship of no mean order, a sparkling voice and high lakshaya gnanam, setting her a little apart even from the other greats in the field" [CV Krishna].

R Vedavalli, who is held in high esteem as a custodian of convention and tradition, is a well-acknowledged artiste this way.
Her concert at the Music Academy on 24th December 2000 was well-balanced, steady and flawless in every aspect of music, be it rendition of compositions or the creative aspects such as raga alapana, neraval, kalpanaswaras etc. The very commencement of Pachimiriam Adiappayya's famous Varnam in Bhairavi, 'Viriboni' placed her where she should be.
Vedavalli took the help of her disciple to sing in the higher octave.

From early in life, Vedavalli won several awards and prizes in prestigious competitions including All India Radio's first prizes for Classical Music and Light Classical Music, awarded by the President of India.
Shmt Vedavalli served in the Teachers' College of Music of the Madras Music Academy for several years, before becoming Professor of Vocal Music in the Government College of Music, Adyar.
Shmt Vedavalli is also an expert veena player, and has good command of Sanskrit, Telugu and Kannada, apart from her mother tongue Tamil, which helps her sing with artha bhava.

Veteran artiste R Vedavalli’s concert for Nada Inbam on December 10 provided the listeners what they expected from her — serenity and strict adherence to "Sampradaya".
The violinist M. Krishnaswamy, after completing his rendition, paid tribute to Vedavalli’s command of this raga by remarking that after several years of playing for her he was still learning its nuances.
The variations on the line beginning "Mandagasaravadhanam" were not an exercise in scalar tectonics but flowed naturally from the strong voice and sure sahitya.

Vedavalli further observed that Sivan invariably gave the contour of the raga in the pallavi itself.
Dwelling at some length on Sivan's compositions in Kharaharapriya, Vedavalli said that Polagam Ramiah turned Papanasam Sivan had composed 25 songs in that raga, and these included kriti-s begining on all the eight notes (mandra shadja to tara shadja).
Rajam shared the opinion of Vedavalli as regards Abheri; he sang Nagumomu the way he was taught by Sivan, in the traditional method, using only suddha dhaivata.
