  Vedda
Their culture and language slowly started to vanish, and today there is not an original Vedda language remaining, and there is, at the most, only a few hundred Vedda people left that have not inter-married with other races and still practice the old ways of living.
The Vedda marriage ceremony was one of simplicity.
Vedda women are in several ways considered the equals of man. In many cultures a person's decent is traced through the man but in the Vedda culture it is traditionally traced through the woman.

Vedda speech is also characterised by a high degree of periphrasis where two or more words of Sinhala origin are used to construct a noun or verb.

From The Veddas by C.G. and Brenda Z. Seligmann (1911), pp.
Some of the Coast Veddas whom we questioned said they had heard of, and still knew of, certain of the old Vedda waruge, and such men were generally able to mention Morane waruge while fewer also knew of Unapane waruge.

The language of the Veddas has aroused much debate in learned circles ever since the early twentieth century when detailed records of their speech were being published in works such as the Seligmanns' Veddas (1911) and Wilhelm Geiger's Der Sprache der Vaddas (1914).
Vedda speech is also characterised by a high degree of periphrasis where two or more words of Sinhala origin are used to construct a noun or verb.
All this would suggest that the Vedda language of today approaches a sort of dialect of Sinhala though it preserves certain forms which may constitute the original speech of their ancestors.

Sri Lanka's coastal Vedda indigenous communities
Most of the Veddas were herded into coastal Refugee Camps in Government controlled regions during the late 80’s and early 90’s.
These Vedda folk populated the interior as well as the coast from Mutur to as far south as Valaichchenai.
Coastal Veddas say they would like to return to their ancestral hamlets and traditional livelihoods, but cannot do so because they would lose benefits that are available to them in settled areas.

WWW Virtual Library: Vedda language - A regional dialect of Sinhala
In fact they were not pre-Aryan people as is evident from Tissahamy's claim that they are the descendants of Vijaya's children who fled to the forest to escape Kuveni's Kuvini's as the Veddas correctly refer to her relatives.
The word Vedda itself has been given to them by the Sinhala people as is evident from the etymology of the word.
Thus it is quite evident that the veddas belong to the post Vijayan period and that they use a language which has its origins in the Sinhala language.

Plight of the Danigala Vedda clan
(Bibile, 17 September 2004) The chief of the ancient Danigala Vedda clan, Danigala Maha Bandaralage Randunu Wanniya, is reported to be dying of throat cancer.
With little help from outside the beleaguered Danigala community, the ailing Vedda elder has been sent in circles from one district hospital to another, from Badulla to Ampara to Kandy and back to Badulla.
Observers have wryly noted that the better-known Dambana Veddas, who have agitated publicly and pressed cases in court against successive governments, have lately become the favorites of politicians, government departments, and the public.

Detailed Review [Vedda Tribe - Overall View] - ProgressoR
Vedda Tribe's lineup didn't undergo any changes since their debut in 1999, while their instrumental equipment was replenished with modern synthesizers and an acoustic guitar.
I was listening to Vedda Tribe's recording 'legacy' along with a few of friends of mine, and of course, we shared our thoughts on each of the albums.
While it's clear to me that it would be wrong to disagree with these remarks, Vedda Tribe's youthfully sincere debut is, nevertheless, a bit closer to the heart of such an adherent of originality as I. In any case, both the albums are highly recommendable.

The Space Review: Space tourism: managing expectations in uncertain times
In essence, Vedda is trying to define “successful” space tourism to be something as commonplace and as mature as forms of terrestrial tourism like commercial aviation and cruise lines.
That is an honorable goal, and Vedda is quite correct to conclude it may take decades for space travel to achieve it.

As customary for the Vedda, the bow and arrow were kept against the palu tree (as a matter of fact any such forest tree), while the arrow head was stuck on the ground.
Suddenly another Vedda armed with a bow and arrow confronted him in great provocation and challenged him thus: "Don't you know to trespass into another's panguwa is wrongful act punishable with death?" He was about to shoot him with the bow and arrow when Randunna jumped forward and stopped him from doing so.

The public has a romanticized view of the Veddas as ancient people with an archaic life-style that is threatened by the cultural transformations of recent centuries.
We have had a spate of articles lamenting over the fate of these indigenes of Sri Lanka who were forced to abandon their 'hunter-gatherer' mode of existence in the face of an inexorable advance in what may broadly be described as 'modernization'.
As understood by scholars, the 'Vedda' is more than a cultural species - he (or she) represents an ancient physical type of homo sapiens with bodily features that are easily recognizable by even the non-expert.
