The Veerashaiva community members on Thursday took to the streets in the City and burnt the effigy of Janata Dal (Secular) national President H D Deve Gowda for not giving representation to the Gulbarga district in the State ministry and for reportedly issuing some 'unsavory' statements against the Veerashaiva community in the district.
Now, finding no representation for the district in the ministry, the Veerashaiva community is up in the arms with Mr Gowda and have decided to show their strength.
Though the samithi had invited all the six MLAs and the lone JD(S) MLC from the district to participate in the protest, their absence was obvious during the protest rally.

Veerashaivas, who were protesting against power connections being given to the houses "illegally" constructed on the land that reportedly belongs to their religious institution, have withdrawn their "dharna".
The former Shimoga MP and President of the BJP district unit, Ayanur Manjunath, said Veerashaivas would resume the protest if their demand was not conceded.
In a joint statement here on Sunday, the Secretary of the KVR State unit, K.L.Ashok, and the President of the CLF district unit, K.P.Sripal, said the residents in the area had been residing there for the past several years.
