The FGU Center for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision is responsible for only periodical monitoring of water objects depending on the sanitary or epidemiological situation in the region, and does not have permanent monitoring stations.
The main water management institution in the Velikaya catchment is the Committee of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection for the Pskov Region belonging to the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation.
There are twenty-two monitoring stations in the Velikaya River Basin, consisting of a variety of hydrochemical, hydrological, and hydrobiological monitoring techniques.
