Ventolin (music) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ventolin is the title of a track by Aphex Twin, often called one of the most abrasive songs ever recorded due to the high trebles and paced beats.
Its music video consists of a lady being trapped in an elevator with other images interspersed.
Named after Ventolin, the asthma drug which induces in some cases a high pitched ringing in the ears for those who take it.

When music is built from sampledfragments of other musics, and noises bearing no relation to recognisable physical acts, recording's previous relationship to the solid presences of notes and melodies, strings and skins, crumbles.
The music flickers between synthesized textures and domestically recorded location sounds, while at other times pollutant blasts of distortion seem to blow in and scrage the music's skinlike a burst of roadworks through an open window.
Much of the music peculiar to the 20th century, from Debussy and Ravel's chromatic palettes to more open ended forms such as improvisation, have been concerned with the struggle to make the instrument as transparent as possible, so as not to obstruct free expression.

 My Aphex Twin Page
Aphex Twin (real name: Richard David James, born: 1971) is a composer of electronic music, in a genre widely known as "techno." His music is difficult, maybe impossible, to effectively categorize, since it covers such a wide variety of styles, from late-80's acid house to jungle to ambient to everything in-between.
Ventolin, an ode to Richard's asthma medicine, is a song that you either love or you hate.
The jungle breakbeats complement the music well, but it is the melody that is always in charge (due to his practice of writing the music first, then adding the beat later).

Based on his early work – several seminal hard-core techno tracks – his photogenic looks and a music industry hungry to give tangible identity to an amorphous style of music, he has been catapulted to the position of rising pop star.
But the musical universe James has been creating for years and that emerges most clearly and completely on I Care Because You Do is the perfect morph of the two worlds: This is classical music for a generation raised on samplers.
The first four tracks are dark mood music, and the joy to be found is in the repetition.

Early releases featured a more hardcore and acid based sound ("Ventolin" is one of Aphex Twin's harshest and most abrasive songs because of the screeching trebles and breaking beats), and later progressing into his critically acclaimed ambient works, while his hardcore side remained active through his pseudonym of Caustic Window.
The late '90s saw his music become more popular and mainstream, as he released two singles, Come to Daddy, and Windowlicker, which were shown on MTV, and the covers of music magazines (including NME).
Aphex Twin spends most of his days creating music at the boundaries of the accepted norms, and his expansive discography is proof of this claim.

But long before marketing teams and MTV fastened on the concept, electronic music had become integral to musical experience in the mainstream and on the margins.
When discussion does turn to electronic music and its various subjects, the discourse reveals a range of assumptions about technology and musicianship, ownership and community, social change and cultural continuity, to name a few.
Analysis/appreciation of musical style and the relationship to particular technologies—aided by creative workshops and "production projects"—will accompany an examination of the music in its social and cultural contexts with an attention to popular and scholarly representations.
