On the Neglect of Verisimilitude and Critical Multiplism
The key issue in any attempt to assess the verisimilitude of advertising experiments is whether the experimental procedures successfully reproduced, in the laboratory, the distinguishing characteristics of the advertising phenomenon as found in the world outside.
Here again verisimilitude may not be a problem for scientists who conceive their task as the study of the responses of organisms to stimuli; for wherever they are and whatever they are doing, organisms are encountering stimuli to which they respond.
A preliminary and very rough attempt to assess the overall verisimilitude of the accumulation of laboratory experiments on advertising was derived by creating a summed score based on the seven criteria and examining the distribution of this sum (Table 3).

 Karl Popper
On the quantitative account, verisimilitude is defined by assigning quantities to contents, where the index of the content of a given theory is its logical improbability (given again that content and probability vary inversely).
In this way, verisimilitude allowed Popper to mitigate what many saw as the pessimism of an anti-inductivist philosophy of science which held that most, if not all scientific theories are false, and that a true theory, even if discovered, could not be known to be such.
Ultimately, the idea of verisimilitude is most important in cases where we know that we have to work with theories which are at best approximations—that is to say, theories of which we know that they cannot be true.

The Scholastic definition is veritas est adaequatio rei et intellectus. Verisimilitude is a turn of discourse through which authors and readers seek adequate apprehension of truth in art such that authors can rely on readers accepting their narratives as possible.
The verisimilitude in The Awakening arouses debate about social issues through its narrative about a woman who doesn’t exist, and exhibits how author and reader can agree to see things similarly and so approach the truth of how things actually are.
In this way, the use of verisimilitude runs the risk of straining credulity through its portrayal of an abundance of descriptive detail that may go beyond a reader’s experience (hence, the document.) Novel moments are often considered self-contained.

Verisimilitude is just a way to give an explanation for certain things or to give an appearance of looking real.

The occurrences of cultural and generic verisimilitude are both very prominent in “The Matrix”, one of my favorite movies.
Although the plot of “The Matrix” follows a “generation-x” man (Neo) working in the average office building (which can easily be related to), the applications of generic verisimilitude in the movie extends the plot to include the fact that Neo is a powerful hacker (which does not easily apply to many people in society).
Ironically enough, the layering of generic verisimilitude upon cultural verisimilitude that creates the theme, also serves to support the idea that the reality that we think we know, is not the true reality.

 Poetics - Volume 9, Issue 2
Verisimilitude is the word used to capture any story's "believability." We all know stories in any medium that step over the line of believability.
Verisimilitude hovers at first like a stern task master, but it is actually quite flexible.
We can enjoy stories in each of these media (and others), but in a day that simply assumes the visual is more realistic, the deep verisimilitude of novels and short stories certainly deserves a renewed voice.

Popperian Ideas on Progress and Rationality in Science
I may mention that my idea concerning the comparative verisimilitude of incongruent counterparts would have avoided this result if I had restricted the comparison to their empirical content, as understood in Science and Scepticism where it is equated with the class of the theory's singular predictive implications, or SPIs, as I call them.
Popper's critics did not attach much importance to his concept of verisimilitude in its heyday; but after its debacle in 1974, news of which spread rapidly, some of them came to see it as the central plank of his philosophy of science, the whole system being brought down by its collapse.
The short answer is that he used it to turn what many saw as a pessimistic philosophy, in which the truth is permanently hidden, into an optimistic philosophy in which we can know, or at least have reason to believe, that we are making progress with respect to truth.

 [Writers-L] Verisimilitude
The term for what an author tries to create is not reality, but verisimilitude.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge said it about fantasy, but science fiction writers also frequently quote him--what we want to create in our readers is "a willing suspension of disbelief." Your readers have come to you to be entertained.
Previously, horror stories had been primarily in the gothic mode, set long ago, far away, or both--or at the very least in some isolated area where the protagonists were trapped, and if they could simply escape the gothic center, they would escape the horror.

CONTEXT: On Realism and Art by Roman Jakobson   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-19)
While in painting and in the other visual arts the illusion of an objective and absolute faithfulness to reality is conceivable, "natural" (in Plato's terminology), verisimilitude in a verbal expression or in a literary description obviously makes no sense whatever.
But the perception of those of a more conservative persuasion continues to be determined by the old canons; they will accordingly interpret any deformation of these canons by a new movement as a rejection of the principle of verisimilitude, as a deviation from realism.
Repin's teacher at the Academy, however, was appalled by the lack of realism in the painting, and he carefully itemized all the instances of Repin's distortion of verisimilitude by comparison with the academic canon which was for him the only guarantee of verisimilitude (i.e., from the standpoint of B2).
