Verity Lambert (born November 27 1935 in London, England, UK) is a British television and film producer, best known for producing the science-fiction series Doctor Who for the BBC for its first two years, from 1963 to 1965.

 Lambert, Verity
She began as a secretary at Granada Television in the 1950s, but by the early 1980s Verity Lambert's influence as a television producer and executive had made her not only one of Britain's leading businesswomen, but possibly the most powerful member of the nation's entertainment industry.
Lambert's BBC assignment, producing a new children's program, may still be her most internationally known achievement: for its first three seasons (1963-65), Lambert guided the development and production of Doctor Who.
Moreover, Lambert and Doctor Who were not based in the children's department, and Lambert's inexperience with (even indifference to) the established conventions of children's programming helped to lay the ground for the cross-generational audiences which made the series a ground-breaking success.

Cinema Verity is a British independent television and film production company, founded in 1986 by Verity Lambert, a well-known and highly successful television producer, who named the company after herself and as a pun on the expression 'cinéma vérité'.
The company's first major venture was the 1988 feature film A Cry in the Dark, which was produced by Lambert herself and based on the infamous Azaria Chamberlain 'dingo baby' case in Australia in the early 1980s.
Thereafter, the company has been active mainly in television, producing two successful sitcoms for the BBC One network, May to December (1989-94) and So Haunt Me (1992-94).

So impressed were Lambert and Whitaker by this idea that they decided to forego the usual request for a storyline from Strutton, and on September 28th, 1964, commissioned him to script a six-part serial entitled “The Webbed Planet”.
The next week, Lambert became frustrated with Martin, whom she felt was permitting his actors to make last-minute dialogue changes, many of which she suspected were due to the performers simply not remembering the correct lines.
Lambert noted that major alterations should be confined to script readthroughs, and that any modifications made afterward should be made only with Spooner's involvement and approval.

Doctor Who LogBook - Introduction - The Hartnell Years
To this end, Newman and the BBC entrusted the Doctor Who concept to Verity Lambert, a young producer (and, atypically at the time for that job, a woman) with the drive and vision to shepherd the series through the then-normal 52-week production schedule, effectively keeping the show on the air year-round.
Lambert latched onto the more fantastical concepts of her new project, seeking the highest technical expertise that the British Broadcasting Corporation had to offer.
But Verity Lambert was adamant and overrode his objections to prevent a costly production delay that could have ended the series prematurely.
