Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
Comics are thought by some to be an art form, also known as sequential art, although whether they are an art form or are merely a medium in which sequential art is practised is still a matter of debate amongst creators, scholars and readers.
Whilst almost all comics art is in some sense abbreviated, and also whilst every artist who has produced comics work brings their own individual approach to bear, some broader art styles have been identified.
The narration of a comic is set out through the layout of the images, and whilst there may be many people who work on one work, like films, there is one vision of the narrative which guides the work.

Encyclopedia: Vermin   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
Vermin is a term given to animals which are considered by humans to be pests or nuisances, most associated with the carrying of disease.
Disease-carrying rodents and insects are the usual case but the term can also apply to larger animals, on the basis that they exist out of ecological balance with their environment, consuming excessive resources.
Introduced species can develop into vermin in the regions where they were introduced if they find favourable living conditions, and if they face few or no natural enemies there.

Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Comics are a form of visual art that consists of a series of static images in a fixed sequence, usually to tell a story.
Sabin prefers to cite the invention of the printing press as the moment when the form began to crystalise, arguing that the medium of comics has been intrinsically linked with printing, and thus whilst variations existed before, they are antecedents and can not be viewed as within the same tradition.
Reputed to be the first four-color comic newsstand publication in the United States, it was published in tabloid size, a size which left it easily confused with the Sunday supplements of the time and so harmed sales to the extent that publication ceased after 36 issues.

Comics and The First World War
As the Nineties generation of comics artists and writers vies to produce the most offensive or subversive comic it seems strange that when many taboos are being challenged, comics makers should ignore the potentials of the Great War.
To reach this point, comics have undergone radical changes since the end of the second war, but they also seem to have evolved in a consistent way where their fixed discourses of behaviour and speech clash with those depicting war as a terrible disaster.
Comics were well established by the Second World War but it was afterwards that they really started to evolve, as writers such as Stan Lee and John Byrne started to create a synthesis between comics’ art and scripts.
