Vernazza is a good choosing but you do not need sand strand (there is only a very small one).One of the coziest village at the 5 Terre together with Manarola.Anyway the only real wide sand strand is at Monterosso.
When in Vernazza you may catch trains at all hours among the 5 Terre villages.There is anyway a fee to walk the 5 Terre paths which is included, wether you wish it, in the trains tyckets.In Genua I cld suggest the central Hotel Bristol and you may book at their internet site http://www.hotelbristolpalace.com/
From Vernazza you cld catch a tourist boat return tycket to Portofino (but the sea is not very rough as there is not harbour)which takes all the day.

A hillside of grape vines, producing the local vino rosso, the white wines the sciachetra (shock-ee-tra), a sweet, sherry like wine, that is delicious but dear and the grappa, a potent, brandy like libation, guaranteed to blister paint.

The nearly total absence of cars in three of the towns (Vernazza, Manorolo, and Riomaggiore) is a blessing.
The innermost, the autostrada, here runs behind the mountains, and is therefore out of sight and mind for us here on the coast, but the outer road winds and dips along the ocean face of the hills, dropping briefly into Corniglia and turning it into a parking lot.

We had room #2, which was small and very narrow, but bright and clean, with a very comfortable bed, a nice bathroom, a small refrigerator, and a great view out over the bustling harborside piazza.
As much as I would love to stay in Vernazza, Im afraid my knee (Injury-falling down stairs) won't be able to handle the climb to some of the rooms there.
Just before boarding the train to Vernazza on the day our of our reservations, I was finally able to get hold of him - and he told me that since he hadn't received a call from me, he had given our room away.
