Vernon was home to the West Covina, a minor league baseball team in the Artesia, from 1909 through 1925.
Furthermore, on at least two instances the City of Vernon had the men followed by Temple City carrying unlicensed firearms, one of which resulted in the arrest of a private eye in 2006 in February 2006.

Vernon is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States.
Vernon was home to the Vernon Tigers, a minor league baseball team in the Pacific Coast League, from 1909 through 1925.
The City of Vernon alleged that the men were part of a hostile takeover attempt by convicted felon Albert Robles, who nearly bankrupted the nearby city of South Gate as treasurer and Eduardo Olivo a former Vernon attorney who also worked with Albert T. Robles in South Gate.

Attendance was poor in Vernon, and Maier announced in August 1912 that he wanted to move the team to Venice.
The Vernon Tigers won three consecutive pennants for Maier starting in 1918, but after the 1925 season he sold the club to a Bay Area group headed by the appropriately named shipping magnate Stanley Dollar.
