Marvel does not care if the comic buying world is made of young men and women who go in the comic shops, go to the conventions and talk in the online message boards.
For years the standard structure of a Marvel comic book was four or five pages explaining the last few issues followed by ten or fifteen pages of the hero lamenting his past and trying to focus his determination to right all the wrongs of the world.
The comic would conclude with an attack by and old foe that would be resolved later in the next issue or may not even be resolved until the follow up limited-edition-crossover-event-to-end-all-crossover events.

I think of superhero comics as a genre that is done better in comics than anywhere else: it's a genre that was cultivated first in comics.
I think both "Constantine" and "Fantastic Four" did a good job of that, though many people who loved the comic didn't like the movie in the U.K, because there were things that were essential to their experience of the comic that they felt were not properly represented in the movie.
Vertigo gave me my start, and working with editors of the caliber of Shelly Bond and Alisa Kwitney means you inevitably learn a lot about storytelling and a lot about your own strengths and weaknesses as a writer.

Mainly 'cause of the vertigo series like 100 Bullets, Transmetropolitan etc. while as a kid I enjoyed Spiderman, X-Men, X-Factor and their various spin offs.
DC is to Marvel as Showtime is to HBO.
DC is to Marvel as VH-1 is to MTV.

The writers did commit something of a comic faux pas, expecting readers to trudge through a few weak issues counting on the strength of the story to pull them through - but we are well past that criticism now.
If you are going to have your comics look appealing to non readers who just saw the movie, this is one heck of a way to go.
If Marvel spent this kind of effort promoting their smaller books, they would be virtually untouchable at the top of the comic heap.

Marvel Comics has some great titles, like the epic, mind-warping wonder of the Earth/Universe/Paradise X saga, New X-Men by Grant Morrison, X-Force/X-Statix, the Ultimate Line, Cable/Soldier X, the new direction on Hulk.
Despite people having "super powers" Marvel comics always seemed more down to Earth and very character driven, such as Peter Parker having a battle with Mysterio then having to home and worry about the rent.
I like DHC better then Marvel or DC (probably because it has SW and that it's based in Milwaukie, only a five or ten minute drive from my house), but if I had to choose DC or Marvel, it'd probably be Marvel, because Spider-Man's awesome.

Hey guys, Well to give a little back ground one of my friends died last year and i love comic books.
So in his memory i am gonna get a tatoo to keep him with me. So i was looking for pics that i can turn into a tatoo.
I remember when i was a kid there was a comic that i saw i'm not sure if it was batman or superman but it was a back shot of him and he was standing holding something in his hand and i can't find it.

The character is more modeled after the Wesley Snipes movie version and the book is firmly set in the Marvel Universe (as proven by the cover to #1).
