Topic: Vessel element

Xylem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The presence of vessels in xylem has been considered to be one of the key innovations that led to the success of the angiosperms.
However, the occurrence of vessel elements is not restricted to angiosperms, and they are absent in some archaic or "basal" lineages of the angiosperms: (e.g., Amborellaceae, Tetracentraceae, Trochodendraceae, and Winteraceae), and their secondary xylem is described by Arthur Cronquist as "primitively vesselless".
Whether the absence of vessels in basal angiosperms is a primitive condition is contested, the alternative hypothesis being that vessel elements originated in a precursor to the angiosperms and were subsquently lost.

Vessel elements vary in size and shape, and in the type of opening (perforations) at their ends.
Earlywood wood vessel elements in ring porous woods such as oak, elm, and ash, tend to be barrel-shaped and as wide as they are long.
Latewood vessel elements of ring porous woods and vessel elements in diffuse porous woods such as maple usually are tube-shaped.

Tracheid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tracheids are one of two types of tracheary elements, vessel elements being the other.
The presence of tracheary elements is the defining characteristic of vascular plants to differentiate them from non-vascular plants.
Because tracheids have a much higher surface to volume ratio compared to vessel elements, they serve to hold water against gravity (by adhesion) when transpiration is not occurring.

Element B(1800 bp) is located in the first intron; a second enhancer element, D (about 350bp), is located about 2 kb downstream of the 3' end of tin and activates gene expression in the dorsal portion of the mesoderm.
The embryonic dorsal vessel in Drosophila possesses anteroposterior polarity and is subdivided into two chamber-like portions, the aorta in the anterior and the heart in the posterior.
In the dorsal vessel of stage 15 or older embryos, a pair of adjacent speckles is observed in between the four tin cardioblasts of each hemisegment, with each speckle associated with one svp cardioblast.

structural characteristics of vessel elements in stems of some mangroves
The occurrence and types of perforation plates, end wall slopes, vessel frequency, length to width ratio and specialization index with respect to end wall characteristics of vessel elements in stems of 21 species of ten families of mangroves of Sundarbans (West Bengal) are described.
The width of vessel elements is significantly low and the frequency of vessels per unit cross sectional area is considerably high in slope-plants than ridge-plants.
According to Cheadle (1 943), a vessel element is termedprimitive when it has oblique end walls with perforation plates that has many closely spaced bars, and advanced when it has slightly oblique to transverse end walls with simple perforation plates and of shorter length.

Tracheids and vessels elements are nonliving at maturity, and both may contain pits in their cell walls.
Vessel elements are the most important in the process of moving water through the plant.
Vessels cover the plant from the roots up to the center of the stem, out to the branches, into the petioles, and end near the leaves.

Techno-economic performance of marine capture fisheries
In the developing countries, however, labour costs become now the most important element of operating costs (as it was the case in the developed countries, both in case of industrial trawl fisheries and in small-scale fisheries) because of the fact that a sharing system of remuneration rather than a fixed wage system is used.
The vessel costs combined with depreciation and interest range between 24% and 48%, which is close to the situation found in Europe and indicates only a slightly lower level of capital investment.
For industrial fishing vessels, fishing area restrictions and reserved areas depend on a combination of the tonnage of the vessels, the fishing method, which is used, on whether the boats preserve their catch in ice or freeze it and finally on the type of resources, which are being exploited i.e.

Heckman, David: Finite element analysis of pressure vessels, MBARI 1998
Contact elements were tested to determine their usefulness in modeling the interaction between pressure vessel cylinder walls and end caps.
If the finite element analysis solution has an error of five percent and takes an hour to run, that solution may be considered acceptable when compared to a solution with a one percent error that takes twenty hours to run depending on the particular use of the structure and factor of safety.
For this pressure vessel, the model had a sharp corner, where in the actual pressure vessel there is a small radius which reduces the stress.

 Introduction:
Various species of plants have adapted different sized vessel elements and different stomatal densities to deal with the different environmental challenges they face in water transport.
Images of the vessels were projected from a microscope onto a television screen.
Because these are the vessels that transport the most water it is not surprising that their diameters are as large as they are.

MegaMagnum elements significantly reduce the installed cost of large and medium-scale reverse osmosis systems designed for brackish water treatment or municipal water reuse, and for nanofiltration systems where softening or organics removal is a desirable treatment for drinking water supplies.
Floorspace required for MegaMagnum element pressure vessel racks is approximately 50% of that for 8-inch racks, allowing users to substantially reduce building size and civil costs associated with a project.
Until now, element size has been limited by practical issues such as the ability to manufacture very large elements, the availability of ASME-rated pressure vessels, and the need to incorporate easy methods of handling.

is equal to the outlet pressure of the vessel but for a vessel in tissue this may not neccessarily be the case.
The output flow is given by rearranging the fluid analog to Ohm’s Law and then the rate of change of vessel volume as a function of time is calculated as the difference between the flowrate into the vessel and that going out.
