Toews was hired by the University of Manitoba in 1987 as a lecturer, and taught classes in labour law and employment law.
Toews argued that the proposal would reduce the number of repeat offenders, and said that it was "sensitive to the needs of the aboriginal community".
Toews formally joined the Alliance in the buildup to the 2000 federal election and defeated four other candidates to win the party's nomination for Provencher, a mostly rural riding in southeastern Manitoba.

Toews reiterated that the Conservative Party will be proposing amendments to: provide clear recognition of the traditional definition of marriage; provide full recognition of same-sex relationships as possessing equivalent rights and privileges; and provide substantive protections for religious institutions in the context of federal law.
Toews noted that Parliament is fully within its rights to pass such legislation, as the Supreme Court of Canada not only declined to answer on the constitutionality on traditional marriage, but declared that it was up to Parliament to decide on the matter.

The government has not provided the answers as to what it is doing with its drug policy and the repercussions of that are that our children are having to band together to protect themselves because the government says that their interests are second to the interests of those who want to use drugs.

Vic Toews knows very well that Americans pick and choose which International treaties they will and will not honor with the NAFTA softwood lumber case being a prime example.
Vic Toews gives a great example of when the extradition treaty ought to be used, when there is a crime with victims involved.

In response to the debate held at the SRSS between Vic Toews and Peter Epp: I was surprised at the way Vic Toews supporters comprehended the Liberals' view of Bill C-250.
One question was directed to Vic Toews and was in the context of, "Do the Conservatives endorse religion in politics?" Vic was quick to respond by saying, "Yes of course, religious groups should have a voice in politics" and made it sound as if the Liberals do not support religious groups.
When he was elected, Vic promised to be a strong voice for the priorities of his region and to be a strong voice for the residents of Provencher.
