Victor French, a citrus research entomologist at the Texas AandM-Kingsville Citrus Center at Weslaco since 1973, was honored by the society for his outstanding contributions to area horticulture.
French said he developed a love for agriculture on his grandfather's potato and sugar beet farm in Colorado and was nudged toward the study of insects by an uncle.
French says his only gripe is the lack of additional trained entomologists to help handle the heavy workload brought on by a seemingly never-ending invasion of new insect and mite pests to area orchards.

Victor French (December 4, 1934 - June 15, 1989) was an American actor.
Born in Santa Barbara, California, French costarred on the television series, Little House on the Prairie (1974-1977, 1981-1983, 1984) as Isaiah Edwards and Highway to Heaven (1984-1989) as Mark Gordon.
In 1998, French was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

French temporarily left Little House in 1977 to star in his own sitcom, Carter Country, in which he played an affable Southern sheriff who tried his best to accommodate the ever-changing racial relationships of the 1970s.
In 1984, Landon cast French as ex-cop Michael Gordon, whose bitterness at the world was softened by the presence of a guardian angel (Landon), in the popular TV series Highway to Heaven.

With recurring roles on Gunsmoke and Bonanza, French developed a close friendship with Bonanza co-star, Michael Landon who took the bad guy out of French's acting repertoire and cast him as the loveable and faithful farmer, Isaiah Edwards in Little House on the Prairie.
Unfortunately, French's success in showbiz ended on June 15, 1989 when he passed away from cancer after completing the fifth and last season of Highway to Heaven.
