Victor Hettigoda is a candidate for the November 17, 2005 Sri Lankan Presidential Elections.
Hettigoda, one of 13 candidates in a packed field that includes current Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, told Sri Lankan newspaper The Island that if elected, he would use his vast fortune to buy a cow for every home in the country.
He said that the cows would be used to fight off malnutrition, suggesting that any excess milk, cheese or butter could be exported.

Presidential candidate Victor Hettigoda also known as Siddhalepa Vedamahathya said yesterday he would not dissolve the Parliament if elected, but would govern through a coalition government.
Hettigoda said he would include LTTE members in his government as a means of solving the ethnic crisis and added he had invited the LTTE to hold talks with him before the election.
I doubt Hettigoda having read the Constitutition of Sri Lanka in detail before he made it public that he intends to continue with the current parliament for at least the next 4 1/2 years.

Hettigoda, a local businessman, blasted these two TV channels, owned by Maharaja Limited, for conducting a “biased and unreasonable opinion poll” through SMS on their stations.
Those without access to SMS or television are also unlikely to be represented in the opinion poll.
