Actor Victor Wong's first important role was Charlie the cook in King Kong (1933); though this unbilled appearance was to have been confined to a single scene, producer/directors Ernest Schoedsack and Willis O'Brien enjoyed the actor's work and expanded his role during shooting.
For the rest of his Hollywood career, Wong was generally confined to bit roles, such as the bandit leader in Frank Capra's Lost Horizon.

 Blind student "reads" maps
Wong, a Cornell graduate student from Hong Kong who lost his sight in a road accident at age 7, is helping to develop innovative software that translates color into sound.
The inspiration for using image-to-sound software came in early 2004 when Wong realized his problems in reading color-scaled weather maps of the Earth's upper atmosphere -- a task that is a necessary part of his doctoral work in Professor Mike Kelley's ECE research group.
To find the boundary, Wong has to move the stylus continuously back and forth from one color to the next along the length of the tablet, which is both time-consuming and error-prone.

Wong's film breakthrough came with his Uncle Tam in Wayne Wang's low-key "Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart" (1985) and he was suddenly much in demand in features.
Some of Wong's best roles came in later Wang films: in the comedy "Eat a Bowl of Tea" (1989) he amusingly played a New York gambling club owner who goes after his cuckold son's rival with a meat ax.
Wong has also been billed as 'Victor K. Wong'; he is not to be confused with Los Angeles-born character actor Victor Wong (born September 24, 1906; died April 7, 1972), whose credits included "Son of Kong" (1933) and "Without Regret" (1935).
