  Ward Centers - About Us
Victoria was born in Nu'uanu in 1846, the daughter of English shipbuilder, James Robinson and his wife, Rebecca Previer, a woman of Hawaiian ancestry whose chiefly lineage had roots in Ka'u, Hilo and Honokowai, Maui.
Even in later years, Victoria Ward held to her political convictions and remained a loyal friend and supporter of Lili'uokalani after the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893.
After the death of her husband in 1882, Victoria Ward and her daughters carried on active management of the family estate, and many of the land-use decisions they made still influence Honolulu's development and impact the lives of residents and visitors to this day.

UrbanPlanet.org -> Victoria Ward submits redevelopment plan!
Victoria Ward Centers will spend more than $100 million to add rental apartments, retail space and a new parking structure as it converts its Kaka'ako shopping complex into an urban village where people live, work and entertain themselves.
The centers' movie theaters, retail stores and restaurants deliver much of that, but an increase in residents might trigger the need for other services like schools, and government officials should be attentive to those as development continues.
Victoria Ward's strategy should be a model for other redevelopment projects.
