 Theatre
Sardou did not give in and managed to enter Paris' theatre environment and, thanks to his marriage with actor Laurentine de Brécourt and his meeting with Virginie Déjazet, one of the theatre stars of the period, he managed to stage the work “Figaro novice” (1859) that was actually played by Déjazet.
Sardou, in fact, had the opportunity to come into Scribe's legacy as his writing qualities made him create flowing dialogues and complex plots where events, puns and intrigue intermingle and build the action.
Sardou was a precise and stubborn writer in his plots both in comedies and historic dramas and a keen observer of human soul and society; he also managed to be remembered thanks to his excellent talents as a writer and he continues to be staged still nowadays.

Tosca is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, based on Victorien Sardou's drama, La Tosca.
The original play by Victorien Sardou was produced in Paris in 1887 and seen by Puccini in Milan, in 1887, with Sarah Bernhardt as Tosca.
Puccini immediately asked his editor Giulio Ricordi to buy Sardou's rights, but these were finally bought only in 1893 to be given to Alberto Franchetti, another composer.

Tosca Goes Online: Historical Notes (Music Feature)
The playwright Ernest Daudet charged that Sardou had stolen key facets of the plot from his La Sainte Aubin, which takes place, as does the action of Sardou's play, on the occasion of Napoleon's fateful battle at Marengo, and in which the female lead is, like Tosca, a renowned singer.
Of course, Sardou denied all of these claims and insisted that the play's inspiration was an actual event from 16th-century French history.
Indeed, Sardou seemed quite anxious to provide Puccini with a subject, even pleading with the composer when he expressed second thoughts about his ability to do the work justice.
