		The Video Girl Ai anime is a six part OVA series which was produced by I.G. Tatsunoko.
		Video Girl Ai was followed in 1993 with another sci-fi/romantic comedy manga DNA² and by the straight romantic comedy I"s in 1997.
		Video girls are generally supposed to be comforting, nubile, excellent cooks, and socially graceful, but the malfunction of Yota's VCR has made her tomboyish, at times rude, prone to violence, a terrible cook, but full of heart and able to feel human emotion.

		From a magical video store High School pupil Youta Moteuchi picks out a video girl of his choice to help him get over the fact that Moemi, the girl he likes, in fact is in love with his best friend.
		AI emerges from this tape, but because Yota's VCR is faulty, AI is not the perfect and innocent girl on the tape, but rather an energetic tomboy, whose breasts have also mysteriously shrunk.
		While AI is very cute and lovable, the execution of the story disappointed me. While there are several good scenes, most of the time the script, directing and editing are strictly average.

		For those of you unfamiliar with the often f[il]ked-up nature of Japanese pop culture, a video girl is just a tape of a sweet young girl, speaking comforting feminine words through the TV screen, so young, lonely, socially-inept Japanese males can at least pretend that a cute girl is talking to them.
		This particular video girl is special, though (as if you couldn't tell by the title): when Yota pops the tape in his VCR, the girl on screen actually comes through his TV and into his room in a burst of light.
		Video girls aren't supposed to fall in love, and when Ai's angry creator returns to take the "tainted" video girl away, Yota has to decide if he loves her, too...
