The video game crash of 1983 was like the stock market crash but only for video game business and many went into bankruptcy.
Some of the problem was due to poor games being released like E.T. *considered the worst game ever.* some people thought it was a fad and others saw new ways of entertainment.
Anyhow this was the killer in the game industry and didn’t recover until Nintendo made its presents.

  Video game crash of 1977
The video game crash of 1977 was different from the video game crash of 1983 in that the crash was not so much caused by games as it was caused by a single game/unit.
This crash is not as well known as the 1983 one, since the video game market in 1977 was extremely small in modern terms, and mostly oriented towards adults.
Video games were still seen as just another pastime which would probably soon diminish as some new leisure activity caught the mainstream's interest.

While there had been previous game consoles that used cartridges, either the cartridges had no information and served the same function as flipping switches (the Odyssey) or the console itself was empty and the cartridge contained all of the game components.
The VCS continued to be sold at a profit after the 1977 crash, and both Bally (with their Home Library Computer in 1977) and Magnavox (with the Odyssey2 in 1978) brought their own programmable cartridge based consoles to the market.
A flood of consoles, glut of low quality video games by smaller companies especially for the 2600, industry leader Atari hyping games such as E.T. that were poorly received, and a growing number of home computer users caused consumers and retailers to lose faith and interest in video game consoles.

Released October 1977 in the USA at a price of US$199.99, the Atari Video Computer System (VCS) was the first successful video game console to use interchangeable cartridges rather than having one or more games built into internal ROM chips.
1977, when the VCS was released, was not a good time for video game systems as the market experienced a crash after it had been previously oversaturated with Pong clones.
There were many factors that may have contributed to the crash including the belief of many people that home computers would take the place of video game consoles.
