The Philips Videopac + G7400 was a video game console released in limited quantities in 1983, and only in Europe; an American release as the Odyssey³ Command Center was planned but never occurred.
The G7400 was the successor to the Philips Videopac G7000, the European counterpart to the American Magnavox Odyssey².
There were plans to release the G7400 in the United States as the Odyssey³ and later as the Odyssey³ Command Center; the system was demonstrated at the 1983 Consumer Electronics Show and some prototypes have been found.

The first Videopac game to take advantage of the enhanced capabilities of the 7400 was Terrahawks, Videopac 51, thus making the further cartridges from that point on Videopac Plus enhanced, they also released new versions of some of the older previously available cartridges such as Race, Stonesling, Satellite Attack, Freedom fighters, and Pickaxe Pete.
There is a forth Exception to the list, however I dont class it as a videopac cartridge as its the Microsoft Basic Expansion Module, Which is Only compatible with the G7400 and possibly the JO-7400, though I have yet to confirm this is the case.
This has been released by enthusiast Dieter Konig of Classic Consoles Centre as Videopac 63, for which he also supplies a wooden joystick holder as flashpoint was intended for the O3 which had built in controller securing it was intended to be played by one player with tow controllers simultaneously

The Videopac + console had almost exactly the same internal hardware as the American Odyssey^3 prototype, but externally it was very different.
The information was compiled by disassembling the BIOS and some games for the Videopac G7000, and by running small programs on the machine and on the O^2 emulator by Dan Boris.

WARNING:there is no code to check for character overlap, so using this on the emu produces different results on overlapping chars than using it on the real machine - I left it out because I wanted to try to find possible effects of overlapping characters...
lets you control the sound registers of the Videopac and find out, what the values mean and which sounds are produced with different settings of the control register.

Please note that this is not the complete list of Videopac consoles, just the ones I personally own.

In the US the Videopac was sold by Magnavox - a Philips company - under the name of Odyssey2.
The original Odyssey was a home Pong variant (in fact, some argue that Pong was the clone and not the other way around) that had considerable success in the 1970s.
The Videopac also had a touch sensitive keyboard, but the impression always was that this was more to convince bemused parents that they were getting little Johnny a 'serious' machine, rather than a toy like the Atari VCS or Intellivision.

For some reason it was called the "C 52" in France, and Videopac everywhere else in Europe.

It was meant to be used for game selection, educational games, programming, entering its name for hi-scores,etc. Apart from the game selection, it was hardly used.
Though not as popular as the Atari VCS, or later Intellivision, the Odyssey² did well in the US and even better in Europe where it was marketed by Philips as the G7000 Videopac and Philips C52 in France.
Even the Odyssey3 prototype (which never came out), was somehow released in Europe as the Philips G7400 system, Videopac+ and Jopac systems.

I did check on the convertor for the G7400, and it should arrive Monday or Tuesday, so that is something.
So, at this point, the G7400 is out for the count as far as making a showing at the convention.
I unpacked the Step-Up convertor, got the G7400 from under the pile of paper that is my upstairs room (or at least part of it), and got the old ADVC100 from its hidding place next to my printer paper supply.

Classic Consoles Center has given the prototype the full treatment, using artwork and manual excerpts from the enhanced MSX port of the game to produce the most authentic version possible.

Implemented it from scratch, based on the EF9340/41 datasheet (sent by Simon Scudder), on the technical docs made by Soeren Gust and disassembling the VP+ bios.
You will need a Videopac+ bios image file in order to use this feature.
You can use the -bios option to select it, rename the file to o2rom.bin, or select it in O2EM Launcher settings.

My mom always got very nervous when she saw the muncher speeding around the screen and me controlling it together with that super nerve wrecking blip blip blip tweet tweet tweet sound that kept on going faster and higher.
