From the Globe yesterday, some bizarre statements from Videotron on how to finance the bandwidth build-out that will be needed if it’s to profit from IPTV, VoIP and the rest: impose a tariff on the content providers, who are getting a free ride, it seems:
Videotron boss Robert Depatie wants the federal government to slap a transmission tariff on providers — like the music and film industry — so they can shoulder part of the burden.
My perspective is that it would be equally logical for content providers to try to charge Videotron for the priviledge of allowing Videotron customers to access their content.

There is a way for Videotron to be removed from this fllist however Videotron themselves must initiate the process: they may visit the M.A.P.S. web page at www.mail-abuse.org and apply to have themselves removed from the Black Hole List.
Those clients of Videotron who are affected are advised to contact their ISP's technical support and ask Videotron to resolve the issue.

IF Videotron is using 256 QAM they should be able to squeeze up to 13 channels into a 6MHZ channel at about 3Mb/s for each channel without noticeable problems.
Videotron must not be rebuilt to 860MHZ if they are doing this.

The political issues within Videotron are very bad, service being outsourced and all, I think they will find out at (or after) we do about when they will start charging for overusage on DOCSIS modems...
I think that Videotron is in the same boat, the cost of implementing a capping (monitoring tools to the client) is more expensive than the revenue that it would generate.
Videotron is a poor very poor company (or should I say cheap).

MONTREAL - Videotron workers in Laval and Quebec City have voted by a wide margin to accept a tentative deal that calls for the rehiring of hundreds of technicians and eventual salary increases for all unionized workers.
More than 84 per cent of the Videotron employees in Quebec City voted to approve the deal, while more than 77 per cent of its workers in Laval gave it the nod.
Videotron will press ahead with its lawsuit against the union for damages to its cable network.

Quebec cable company Videotron is suing Bell ExpressVu for $374.2 million, accusing the Bell Canada subsidiary of not doing enough to protect its digital satellite delivery system from piracy.
"The plaintiffs [Videotron] have alleged that Bell ExpressVu has failed to adequately protect its system against signal piracy, thereby depriving the plaintiffs of subscribers who, but for their alleged ability to pirate Bell ExpressVu's signal, would be subscribing to plaintiffs' services," a statement from Bell Canada said.
Last Friday, Videotron amended its claim and is now looking for "$49.5 million for profits allegedly lost over the last three years, $314.7 million for alleged future losses and $10 million in punitive damages," according to the Bell release.
