Vienna - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Viennese cafes claim to have invented the process of filtering coffee from the captured baggage after the second Turkish siege of 1683.
Vienna is the seat of the Viennese Roman Catholic archdiocese, and its acting Archbishop is Cardinal Christoph Schönborn.
Viennese cafés have an extremely long and distinguished history that dates back centuries, and the caffeine addictions of some famous historical patrons of the oldest are something of a local legend.

Second Viennese School - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Second Viennese School was a group of composers made up of Arnold Schoenberg and those who studied under him in early 20th century Vienna.
Their mature music is characterised by atonalism and Schoenberg's twelve tone technique, though Schoenberg's teaching (as his various published textbooks demonstrate) was highly traditional and conservative, and did not include discussion of his serial method.
The 'First Viennese School', which is rarely referred to as such except in comparison to the Second, is generally taken to consist of Vienna-based composers working in the late 18th and early 19th century, particularly Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert.

The Viennese Waltz, called so to distinguish it from the Waltz and the French Waltz, is the oldest of all ballroom dances.
The First Viennese School is a name sometimes given to a group of classical music composers who wrote in the classical music era in the late eighteenth century in Vienna.

 Viennese Horn
An important difference between horn types is that the inner diameter of this section in a Viennese horn is between 10.7 and 10.8 mm (11 mm max.), whereas the double horn varies within a much larger diameter range, from 11.5 mm to 13 mm (depending on the small, medium or large size of the instrument).
And due to its higher amount of overtones (at the same objective volume level) the Viennese horn is less apt to be "covered" by other orchestra instruments, and is better heard through the orchestra than a double horn played at the same dynamic level.
The typical Viennese musical style is in the case of the horn a result of the instrument's construction, tradition-bound tastes, and the personality of the individual musician.

 ANNUAL VIENNESE WALTZ BALLS
In 1814 the Viennese Waltz was credited with helping to put the ambassadors to the Congress of Vienna in the frame of mind to amicably settle the mess left after Napoleon's first retirement.
The famous Viennese Waltz music such as the Blue Danube was written after the dance became popular, and the music expresses the feeling of the dance as experienced by the dancers themselves.
In this sense, the Viennese Waltz is a gallop, not a trot, for the dancer.

Tea & Coffee 10/00 - Following the Viennese Coffeehouse Tradition
The Viennese did not like the bitter taste of the Turkish drink, so Kolschitzky strained off the sediment and added milk or cream and honey to neutralize the bitterness.
Visitors to the city are just as eager to enjoy the Viennese coffeehouse experience as they are to spend an evening at the opera or to explore the Imperial palaces and museums.
The Viennese never dream of merely ordering “a cup of coffee.” The exact ingredients and their proportions must be specified-coffee, milk, cream, whipped cream-each permutation having its technical name.

 Viennese oboe
The sound of the Viennese oboe can be heard only, when Viennese orchestras are playing - everywhere else the oboists use other instruments, especially of the type of the French oboe.
If one listens to Viennese and French oboes, one gets the impression, that the biggest difference is in the vibrato, which is used very seldom by the Viennese instrument and practically always by the others.
But as the vibrato can be played on the Viennese instrument as well as on the others, it is specific to the style of playing and not to the instrument.

 ANNUAL VIENNESE WALTZ BALLS
By the 1930's, among competition ballroom dancers, "waltz" came to mean the slow waltz, which evolved from the "Boston", and the fast waltz was renamed the Viennese Waltz, with reference to the city that originally made it famous.
The American style competition "Viennese" waltz also has many figures, but the only ones that are true ballroom dance figures are the few borrowed from the original Viennese waltz.

Before I ever roasted a bean myself in the early 60's I used to go to a Viennese cafe (The proprietor's name was Altschuler) in Berkeley just to enjoy the coffee.

People who moved to Vienna from these regions brought with them the Landler and developed faster dancing of the Landler-steps, due to the new smoother dance floors which we know nowadays under the title of "Viennes Waltz".

This may explain why there was a `scientific' streak in the rational `coolness' of the Second Vienna School's twelve-tone music, why the development of psychoanalysis transcended the boundaries of science and culture, and why even today the iron core of Viennese modernism, the neo-positivism of the Vienna Circle, may be seen as a cultural phenomenon.
