The unit award of the Vietnam Civil Actions Medal was presented to all members of a military command who had participated in civic actions with such a degree that would normally warrant the presentation of the Vietnam Civil Actions Medal.
The unit award appeared as the ribbon for the Vietnam Civil Actions Medal (First Class), enclosed in a gold frame with a centered bronze palm.
In the United States armed forces, the Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation was most often awarded to units of the United States Marine Corps which had participated in local police actions to suppress civil unrest in certain areas of South Vietnam.

Citation: Lt. Emmet was in G Troop which was sent to relieve a detachment of soldiers under attack by hostile Apaches During a flank attack on the Indian camp, made to divert the hostiles Lt. Emmet and 5 of his men became surrounded when the Indians returned to defend their camp.
Citation: With a force of 40 men rode all night to the relief of a command that had been defeated and was besieged by an overwhelming force of Indians, reached the field at daylight, joined in the action and fought for 3 days.
Citation: Was gallant and meritorious throughout the campaigns, especially in the combat of October 15 and in the forced March on September 23, 24 and 25 to the relief of Forsyth's Scouts, who were known to be in danger of annihilation by largely superior forces of Indians.

The United States wanted to stay out of this war, but the threat and conquests of the German seapower had already sunk several U. merchant ships, including the killing of 128 Americans on the LUSITANIA vessels on May 23, 1915.
Despite discriminatory practices and segregated units, Black Americans proved their valor, and 1,300 were eventually commissioned and promoted to the ranks of officers in the United States Military for their duty in World War I. Six major units served in this war: the 92nd, 93rd, 369th, 370th, 371st, 372nd.

Personnel attached to and serving with the units listed in enclosures (1) and (2) during the dates indicated, or any part thereof, are entitled to and authorized to wear the Vietnamese Civil Actions Ribbon Bar with Palm and Frame in accordance with reference (a).

As an infantry unit we distinguished ourselves in Vietnam by receiving the Valorous Unit Citation, Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation and Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
Incidentally, the same unit received another Valorous Unit Citation for its gallantry in rescuing the Army Rangers that were trapped in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Our Brigade was awarded the Valorous Unit Citation and Presidential Unit Citation for stopping the 274th and 275th VC Regiments dead in their tracks during the defense of Long Binh, Bien Hoa, and Saigon.
