Americanization is the saddest and most tragic chapter in all Vietnamese ethnohistory, the Vietnamese holocaust is a portent of things to come, an apocalyptic vision without parallel in all of human history.
Prior to this, the North Vietnamese had not sent regular troops across the DMZ but soon "dispatched divisions to fight in the South." Meanwhile, back at the White House, LBJ muttered this truly remarkable comment: "I do not believe it is pleasing in the sight of God for men to separate morality from their might.
Vietnamese independence is the result of commitments made by successive generations.

Vietnamese atrocities after the fall of Saigon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A number of atrocities against Vietnamese soldiers and civilians occurred in the aftermath of South Vietnam's surrender to North Vietnam on April 30, 1975 during the Fall of Saigon.
The North Vietnamese rounded up former Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) soldiers, members of the South Vietnamese government, citizens that formerly held jobs connected to the United States government, and religious civilians that did not pledge loyalty to the state.
They were sent to re-education camps located throughout Vietnam (mostly in the north) that were designated by the Communist government in Hanoi.

Second, it was a consequence of centuries of ethnic animosity between the Vietnamese and the Cambodians, which has periodically spilled over into attempts at genocide-usually at the expense of the Cambodians.
And finally, it is the clearest way for the North Vietnamese, who have conquered the South and who completely dominate the present communist government, to prevent insurrection in South Vietnam.
So the Vietnamese communists are exporting their domestic strife, and fulfilling a long-held dream of conquest in the bargain.

A holocaust is a biblical sacrifice and, from a Christian theological standpoint, it turns the mass murder of the Jews into a form of martyrdom.

Holocaust means sacrifice, God, purpose." And Michael Berenbaum writing with the authority of the US Holocaust Museum claims: "The Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, translates the Hebrew word olah as holokauston.
In French, there is significant use of "holocauste" in the sense of an abhorrent immolation to honor an infernal god and/or of a destruction inspired by stupidity or hate, a use encountered in writings of native English speakers fairly frequently before 1900 but rarely, if at all, in the twentieth century.
The employment of "holocaust" with non-Nazi referents by those who have some investment in guarding and perpetuating the memory of the Jewish slaughter of the Hitler period is germane to the concerns of this essay, as is the disapproval that sometimes followed such employment.

Another lesson some have drawn from the Holocaust is awareness of "the crime of indifference." Novick agrees that "the atrophy of a sense of mutual obligation" is indeed a problem in modern individualistic societies, but he doubts that the Holocaust provides the most useful example, again because of the extremity of the situation.
The argument for the uniqueness and incomparability of the Holocaust contributes directly to this kind of "lesson." Novick's harsh but unavoidable conclusion is that the Holocaust doesn't teach lessons at all.
Novick suggests that the Holocaust curriculums mandated for public schools are a waste of time, teaching trivial lessons about being nice to everybody; I think the Holocaust ought to be taught in school.

The mass murders of a third of Cambodia’s people by the madmen Pol Paut and Ieng Sary, however, was the result of the U.S having expanded the Vietnamese War to Cambodia (remember Nixon’s Secret War?), which destroyed the neutral government of King Norodom Sihanouk.
Worse yet, the U.S., together with its noble ally China, actually supported and provided arms to Pol Pot when the Vietnamese army came in to finish him and his killers off—surely one of the more grotesque of U.S. Policies in the post World War II period.
