First charted by English adventurers at the end of the 19th Century, this route follows the 8+day, 100 km, glacier walk or ski from the Chamonix valley, home of Mont Blanc to Zermatt, home of the Matterhorn.
Using high mountain huts to allow skiers to stay high and cover substantial distances, it winds through the highest, most dramatic peaks of the Alps.
Bus or taxi to Verbier and the Mont Fort hut.

This is the Requin hut, the normal lunch dining area.
On day 6 we simply passed the time in the Vignettes hut, telling stories, jokes, playing cards and eating the excellent Rösti, a local concoction of hash brown-like potatoes garnished fried eggs, cheese and bacon, as you like.
Of all the skiers who started out from the Vignettes hut, there were only two groups planning on getting to Zermatt that day, as the other one, a group of 3 led by a New Zealand guide, slept in late after a big day previously.

We decided to skip the Argentière hut, because we were not pleased with it, when we compared it with several other Swiss huts last year.
The Chanrion hut is not that special, although it has lot's of free water and a big terrace.
Now the Bertol hut is a little bit higher on the rocks so you have to take the new stairs to arrive at the hut.

Although it doesn't look it from the hut, the route is easy to find (some chains in place) and its faster and easier than dropping down and ascending to the Col de la Tsa.
NW flank and SW ridge, PD. This is the standard route but talking to the guides the crevasses are getting bigger and bigger each year and soon it won't be possible to cross them.
We made a mistake and left all our rock gear at the hut which meant we had to go back via the hut.
