Vigo County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana.
Vigo County is named in honor of Francis Vigo, an Italian tradesman who was instrumental in the capture of Fort Vincennes by George Rogers Clark.
In the county the population was spread out with 22.90% under the age of 18, 14.30% from 18 to 24, 27.30% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 14.20% who were 65 years of age or older.

 Vigo County, Indiana Genealogical Records Information
Vigo County was organized by an act of the Legislature March 21, 1818 becoming effective February 15, 1818, it was named for Revolutionary War hero Colonel Francis Vigo, a native of Sardinia, Italy, who came to Vincennes about 1777 and died in that city March 1836.
This claim was paid to his heirs in 1884 and the amount for the bell was paid by the heirs to the county.
This amount is a part of the expense of the bell that was hung in the dome of the Courthouse and bore the inscribed name of Colonel Francis Vigo.
